      +1

The trend around here seems to be buy parts to suit a tune and then have varying/average results. What ever happened to tuning to suit the car and parts?

A couple of reasons. Slick marketing, have a flick thru any Motor mag.

Also that the euro scene is relatively young compared to the Japs. In that a lot more people are savy about what to expect for their $$$. I'm in no way meaning to be rude but you only have to look on my posts regarding tuned cars for afr's etc, & wheel alignment settings to see how many posted. Those sort of questions on a wrx/evo forum would have been given muuuuuuuuccccch big responses.

It will take time, but it will happen.

Time will tell I guess. Thus far one of those "off the shelf tunes" is on the top of 1/4 mile times and dyno results. I understand that these are only two indications, but they seem to be two large indications for the people into this sort of thing.

Additionally... you could hardly claim they have slick marketing. Their lack of marketting, or even keeping their website up to date, is one of my complaints about them! I mean... how long ago did the MK6 Golf come out? Update your site *cough*

Anyway. I know the custom tuners are lifting their game. People like Mark (parso_rex) from Recode and John from DNA Tuning are doing good work, especially Mark with the R's.

And btw... the wheel alightment/camber/caster discussion had already taken place once or twice. Guy_H, WhiteJames, and a few other poeple with R's taked about it on one occassion that I can recall. Maybe people are just tired of having to answer the same questions to people who start several threads rather than using the search?

In any case. The R comes setup pretty well from stock for road purposes, and beyond that, it doesn't have the means to adjust camber and caster with the stock components. You need to swap to aftermarket parts to do so...

I did search you condescending twit.

So now you reply in this thread re the R, was that so fukcin hard? Maybe instead of trying to be a smart arse you could work towards a better search function, this one is garbage.

Obi-wan (PTW) and Dave_r hit the nail on the head...Custom tuning to suit the car and parts it has fitted, is the best way to maximise the potential of every component and ensures your getting the best out of whatever modification you make. Generic tunes are good for people who want to leave their cars stock parts wise and just want a tune imo.

Regarding suspension settings etc, the Golf R Scene is just no where near as big as what the WRX Scene was and still is...although i hate the cars due to the demographic who worship them, you cannot argue the bang for your buck or tunability factor!
Absolutely loving my Golf R and hearing the Miss' scream when it come's on boost!!

Anyone talked to Paul at Pulse Racing ?

Paul did a custom tune on my 06 XT (the first he did) not long after I got it

I know he has done a few GTIs

With his extensive background at MRT and in the international racing scene, he certainly has the skills

I am not interested in tuning my R but he may be a useful contact

A really nice guy as well

None of the Custom tuned cars with the same mods as the top car have been down the strip yet.

zbeasty's trapped 107.5mph with just a TXS downpipe and custom tune.

The nearest to that is 102mph which was an APR stage 2 (CES TBE) and after that a 101.5mph APR stage 2 (APR TBE).

Even Julia Gillard couldn't dismiss a 6mph gap.

Yeah, I don't disagree with your comments Large Fruit. I'm just saying that right now, the top cars for VW, anywhere in the world, are off the shelf tuners. APR, GIAC, Revo etc. More options are always good though, so bring it on

Don't forget to Quote whether the times set were with DSG or Manual...Any Joe Bloggs and his Dog can set a blistering time with DSG, Manual on the other hand is quite difficult and also theoretically slower but nonetheless important. I am interested to know what times are being posted by both gearboxes...

Manual or DSG doesn't impact on the trap speed unless the driver is a gimp. The Trap speed is a good indication of power.

The ET (which you are referring to) is an indication of how good the driver can get the car off the line. And yes, manual/DSG would be a key factor.

                              Don't hate a gear changer!!

True true...i think low ET's are on the cards then as i hate launching my car hard off the mark ...hence why i love my midrange!!

FYI KRA21E and anyone else interested in the 1/4 mile details Large Fruit quoted earlier, you can find the standings in the 1/4 Mile Times thread in the Motorsportforum.
