Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • When to run Forged internals on a Bora V6 4Mo?

    Howdy dubbers!

I am very close to pulling the trigger on a (slow) build of a Supercharged V6 Bora. When does the engine need to be cracked open for forged internals?

I am going with a V9f charger stage 2 and then going to run a water/meth kit - tuned accordingly on a c2 supplied ecu.

do we even need internals at this stage?

How much boost do you want to pump into it?

          Should be fine.

If you're worried, fit a set of ARP rod bolts.

Make sure you get some decent intercooling going.

My previous car, an A4 2.8 quattro I put a PES G2 supercharger kit on; decided to bolt on a smaller pulley (10psi) and slowly melted a piston, ha.

x2. Or at least run water-meth injection. Sebs got a real trick set-up going on his VR6 Turbo.

yeah sorry gang, I meant to put down that i am after a decent water/meth (or at least water) injection kit. Prob Devil's Own. Only because for way less than a grand its free hp and a big safety margin.

Since you own a servo have you thought about e-85?
Also your best to speak to Mark @ Re-code to get a custom tune for our conditions.

we've just changed our tanks for the brand new 98ron formula from Shell. Nationwide rollout should come soon. Haven't thought of e85 tbh, and i do have easy access to 20L drums of 100.1 RON race fuel.

As for the tune, JLT recommends c2 for the tune - so ship the ecu off to the US with a list of all the mods and go from there. In saying that though, am always open to options and recode seem to be getting great results.

I had forgotten that the Audi v6 is a 90degree v6, and so you're lucky enough to get a roots blower as opposed to a compresion blower like the Vortechs. Probably more power and awesome sound out of the Roots blower.

I would definately look at tuning for e85. Previously being in the v8 scence there were definate benefits over 98 for power.
