Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • steinbauer chip - polo 77tsi

hi, i was just wondering if anyone has experimented with a steinbauer chip in a 77tsi.
the power gains are looking quite impressive.
    thanks

      power gains:
      before, 77kw - 105ps - 175nm
      after, 92kw - 125ps, 210nm
      for $2392.. abit dear?

Very dear for a unit that needs to be hooked into the following sensors:

Boost Pressure sensor pre throttle control valve
Boost pressure sensor post throttle control valve
        Camshaft sensor
        Turbo control valve
        Coolant temperature sensor

For close to $3k, i'd be wanting something damn special for that, like an intercooler and exhaust as well.

Oh, you also need to adjust the potentiometer in case something isn't quite running too well as the unit can provide too much power etc(?!?!)

Like most piggybacks, it only alters the fuel map so boost remains as stock.

I'm sure Vinnie got very similar (or better) improvement with a DNA Tuning remap (based in Melbourne!) for well under $1000. Contact DNA Tuning (John Lu - top bloke) - they are a site sponsor.

$2400....that is daylight robbery. Go to DNA tuning for less than a $1000

ABT will take the 77TSI to 103KW. Not sure of the price tho'

lol... that's almost half way the difference to a Polo GTI! Yet the Polo GTI has much better features and even more Powah!

                What the above peeps said

                  FYI
Vinny7's impressions for DNA Tuning remap (no figures)
                  DNA Tuning power increase 77TSI: 77kW / 175Nm -> 100kW / 220Nm

According to their copy for the Polo GTI, they do mess with the boost levels, can't say about the 77TSI because I didn't actually look...

ADVANTAGES of the STEINBAUER Power Enhancement:
No active increase of boost or common rail pressure!

Thanks for recommending our tune. We do increase the boost levels, it doesn't make sense not to - it's turbocharged after all. We only increase the boost by 20%, and also focus heavily on ignition timing and slight alterations to the fueling.

Also, our upgrade is a proper ECU remap and not a piggyback; this allows us to carry out fine optimisations.

                        Also for $830, well... I would hope it's a no-brainer!

Dammit kaanage, you're right! I didn't interpret what was in the instalation instructions correctly!

The STEINBAUER Power enhancement modifies the boost pressure and injection quantity by fine tuning the firing point and duration of the
injectors. This is achieved by blue printing and interpreting original electronic signals. These signals are recorded and recalculated to optimise
boost pressure, ignition timing, injection characteristics and the control of actuators to optimise performance.
To prevent the engine from damage the power enhancement starts from a certain engine temperature which is saved in the characteristic.
Furthermore the power enhancement is reduced or deactivated at the culmination of excessively high engine temperatures.
