Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Golf R manual - reflash only - expected real world increase

    Hi

Just wondering the real-world difference after a manual Golf R re-flash (with no other mods). One VW dealer told me its all top end, yet another has suggested it simply smooths out the lower/mid range power and makes the car a lot more responsive for everyday driving, and will not make the car any quicker in top end than a standard MY11 STI or Evo?? whatever that means...
    Confused now...

From the graphs I've seen, it's an increase across the entire rev range.

You certainly don't lose power anywhere after a retune.

As for quicker than a standard MY11 STI/EVO... a reflashed car is about on par with one in terms of straight line performance. Handling is still worlds apart, however.
Previous Rides: Polo GTI, Mx5 10AE, MY05 WRX WRP10, Renault Sport Clio 172
Current Ride: Evo 8 MR, Fabia MK3

Here is a chart of Liam's S3 at the Sydney Dyno Day a few weeks ago. He did a standard run in the morning then had an APR Stg1 tune loaded.

Golf R 5 door, DSG, EVOMS CAI, TXS DP, Recode Tune.
