Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

The engine is good for 300hp and 300lbs of torque at the crank. A K04 with the right hardware will make circa 270hp at the crank, like a chipped S3.
You need to have a 3 inch MAF, S3 injector, fuel pump, a 3 inch downpipe wouldn't go amiss either. I had 165KWATW on my A3, with the same hardware and still had to finish the map.

Fuel pump isnt necessary, the internals are good for aound 400hp but you'll find the rings wear out quicker.
Did you have a front mount in your A3 Gavin?

I did have a front mount in there.

The rods are the weakest link, careful application of torque will keep it from throwing a leg out of bed!

I fitted the S3 pump as initially, I had a 4 BAR FPR and also because C-C have had plenty of dramas tuning cars with failing pumps in the past. The idea being it was cheaper than running around in circles during logging and better than running lean and doing damage.

Custom-Code is in the UK, I am the Australian agent. I live in Adelaide but travel a bit when I have to. We have off the shelf and can do custom stuff too. It isn't quite that simple in practice with the MK4, due to the limited logging you can do through the ME3.8 ECU.

I am in Sydney at the weekend, going to the Nationals on Sunday for sure.

i have decided that im going with a gt28rs turbo, probly some 380cc injectors (does anyone think they are still too small?)
anda custom 3 inch exsaust, and i may have to go with stand alone engine management something like a haltech ecu, i just got a stage 2 clutch + flywheel ,i also would probly have to upgrade lsd open to options with the lsd, what standalone ecus are people using in the mk4s now p.s. i would rather die then get another microtech computer

i just dont see enough advatages from a k04 ...not when u can get a 28rs i know it could be a bit more laggy down low but its going to be a whole world better at higher revs...
