Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Looking at getting a stg 1 tune towards middle of the year and trying to do as much research as possible...

I'm interested to find out from people with different brands of tune on how they find the design of their tune. I'm NOT interested in power v. price, total power output and generally starting a chip war between people!!! I'm more interested in OBJECTIVE opinions on things like drivability; toeyness of throttle, how smooth boost delivery is, how early boost comes on, how easy it was to install and change between programs etc etc.

I know all the chip companies have dyno graphs to show off their "tune" but I'd really like to hear people's real world thoughts (ideally I'd love to drive cars with all different tunes done, but that's just not possible!).

    Thanks

    What car mate?

I have APR for my Polo. It's a second version designed for a happy midrange torque lump.

It's fine, if I had my time again I would consider other tuners.

TomC what car do you have? I might be able to put you in touch with previous customers, with the same one. They would give you their opinion I am sure.

      Also I am in Adelaide!

If you are on Adelaide, def hit up Gav (Custom Code).

If he were in Syd, he would have my business.

To the best of my knowledge my car is running the Custom Code phase 1 tune. I bought the car like this so I can say what it was like before but I can say now that power delivery is smooth, torque down low is quite good and the engine revs smoothly to about 6.5k where the ecu promptly kills everything and revs drop to 1.5k until you change gear (it sucks but I just change at about 6k).

No idea what the others are like but after I do some mild n/a work to the engine I will probably go for the CC Phase 2 tune.

So you're saying the engine revs hit 6500rpm and then you lose all power until it drops back down to 1500rpm or if you change gear, whichever happens first? If that is what's happening, I strongly suggest you contact CC to get it rectified; I'm sure they will be happy to correct the mistake in the code.

Coralon, who did you buy the car from?

Sorry guys, not sure why my signature didn't come up...

Assuming it does this time, I have an MY07 Golf GTI.

                      Excellent.

It probably would help to know what I'm looking for. I use my car as a daily driver (do about 40km a day) and also for trips down the coast to surf, so I'm not looking for a traffic light drag car. I'm looking for a highly useable/well intergrated tune that will make chores like overtaking more effortless.

I've had a 6hr trail tune from APR and was extremely impressed with the linear nature of power delivery, was still a very easy car to drive daily during the commute. I guess I'd like to hear from those with other tunes as to the nature of their "style" (i.e. maybe people's experience of another tune is even more linear/userfriendly than the APR tune?) in the areas I mentioned in my initial post.

I doubt that is a "mistake with the code". Is there a EML coming on when this happens? Did you scan it for fault codes?
