ECU & DSG Flash upgrades

Hi guys,
I'm new here and was wondering if anyone has had the "HPA" DSG or ECU flash done to their cars? Golf R coming soon and would like to know if anyone can recommend it?? thanks

Can't say I've ever heard of HMA mate. In fact, doing a google for them doesn't bring up any joy either....

Aah right. I didn't know HPA did ECU tunes....

But anyway, as far as their DSG flashes, DeanCorp has had the HPA Stage 3 DSG flash done.

There is also this thread also currently on the 1st page of this forum on DSG flashes in general (for which there are HPA, GIAC, Custom Code etc).

As well as this thread also currently on the 1st page of this forum on the Custom Code DSG flash and the owners review of it.

So there are options out there, and feedback on them all from people who have had them done on this forum.

I drove DeanCorp's car the other day with the HPA DSG flash in it, and the DSG flash is awesome. I'd love to get it.

I would be very interested to know the potential of flashing the 7 speed DSG in a new Polo GTI. I find there is still a bit of lag between selecting and engaging gears in manual. Once flashed I would like it to be truly manual when in manual mode. Anyone know?

There are no flashes for the 7sp DSG (at least advertised) from any of the DSG tuners. The 7sp has single plate dry clutches, so you're very limited in what you can do.

As for as "Driving truly manual when in manual mode" - the complaints about this usually come from people who don't actually know how to use the gearbox and accelerator pedal of their VW's.

1) Firstly, one thing you can never prevent the DSG from doing, even with a DSG flash. That is downshifting to prevent stalling when the revs get too low
2) Next up, the DSG without a flash will always change up PAST THE RED LINE to prevent you from over-revving. Even IF you get the DSG flashed, you may or may not be able to rev any higher, because you'll then hit the engine's rev limiter (unless you've done engine modifications to increase the rev limit of the engine). Many people talk about how they'd still love to be able to control this for going around corners and then being able to blast out etc - but that usually comes from people who haven't yet gotten their cars and don't yet realise that the car is 1) more efficient at lower RPM's anyway, and 2) the DSG shifts so fast that it changing to prevent over-revving won't unbalance the car anyway. So the people who truly need this feature are really R32 owners or Stage 3 owners who have drastically changed the operating efficiencies of their engine
3) Seen as one of the most beneficial reasons for a DSG tune, and yet the one which is purely down to driver error is the ability to "prevent kick down" on the DSG in M mode. The accelerator pedal in the Golf (sorry, I'm not sure about the Polo GTI) has a "kickdown switch" which is past the "100% throttle point". At any revs and loading, you can go WOT as fast as you want, and the DSG will NOT kickdown UNLESS you go past the "resistance point" at 100% throttle and press the pedal all the way to the floor where it hits the kickdown switch.

So with those 3 points out of the way, the reason for getting the DSG flashes should be other things. Quickening of the clutch engagement, firmer clutch engagement, changing in D and S mode shifting points, raising of the launch control maximum revs (in combination with clutchpack upgrades and "higher stage DSG tunes), etc etc.
