Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DNA 118TSI Stage 1 Review

Hey guys, thougt i would put up a review of the DNA tune i got last week.

Firtstly, thank you to John from DNA for the friendly service!

Just want to say that driving the Jetta with traction control on has a completely different feel than with it off.

The traction control really retricts the power until around 4k then it pulls like a train.

With traction control off its such a different car! I get a little chirp off the line but you really need to watch the speedo cause you get to 100 pretty quick! Pulls pretty hard all the way to 6k and it just keeps pulling.

Im really impressed with the power from 3.5k to 6k.

Ive done 620km with 1/4 of the tank to go, so not sure if the fuel consumption has gone up but i have been giving it the beans abit too

Overall, for the money you spend and the end result, its a no brainer really.

Will be getting it dyno'd next month some time to see what power she puts out.

    Cheers John and DNA.

Fantastic to hear; thanks also for the glowing review.

Your observations are spot on regarding the twin charged TSI upgrade. The supercharger is no longer providing boost pressure past around 3500 where the turbo completely takes over; and hence there are lots of gains at and above that range; the difference before vs after tuning in a twin charger setup is definitely different to that of just a plain turbo engine - down low to mid range the twin charger setup already pulls very strong so the tune is mainly felt from about 3000-3500rpm onwards.

As I mentioned to you that day, the 118TSI just has so much potential; it really should have come with 132kw from the factory like the Polo GTI; but even then, there's so much more power to be had for both models =).
