  • What's so good about Megasquirt?

On my occasional visits to the mk2 section of vortex i've found that everyone seems to have this love for Megasquirt and that every car should run it. So i'm thinking what is so good about it? and what differences are there between it and say a wolf3d or microtech or any standalone unit of that nature?

Best of the worst (cheap) although ask anyone that has thrown money into a big hole and they'll tell you to find the nearest hole/tuner

If it was me I'd go to Canberra and have someone with good history tune it with

$1200ish for the hardware and 500 for the tune. Saying that there's a megasquirt specialist in adelaide so provided I wasn't put off by the lack of cold start compensation that'd be the way to go.

sweet there is an autronics dealer in albion park, thats like 40 minutes from me

Cold start is an issue with me to, my mk1 with the wolf was a royal pain when it was cold. Best thing about my digi setup, i know i can get in and it will start.

Ive got to ask, where'd you get that pricing from. Last time I checked the pricing wasn't to far off Motec. Then you've got to buy the sensor's & what not.

Cause that's nearly cheaper than a Microtech less coil's.

It's funny cause you don't get much tuning for $500 anymore. Rough cold start (very rough, cause normally they can only do it once first thing in the morning) rough cruise tune & a full power tune. Some of the turbo'd stuff don't even play around with the accelerator pump setup's & only shoot for the full power figure.

Looking at some of the review's & comment's about the gear, I think that ms is good because it's user friendly & easy to tune like microtech. Very basic yet very effective.

Same goes for the 034EFI Engine Management, but's that's alittle dearer too.

Those prices were from a conversation I had with Pete Shelley at the nationals this year. Those are the rates he gets for his customers.

                Nice.

Jeez that's cheap. I reckon some of us will have to jump on that band wagen.

There are only a handfull of people here in canberra who can tune an engine and if it was my car I would get it done in Sydney coz there is a lot of tallent there. Most of the guys here can get something to run but the little things dont get looked after, like cold start, idle, part throttle light load/no load situations. And yes I do have a cheap after market computer and am very happy with it
MK1 floG soon to have 16v 2L with cable change gbox - need a 16v turbo manifold
