Post APR 6hr trial complications

I wonder with all these problems if anyone has actually taken this up to Consumer Affairs. The more complaints to them and quite possibly they might take action. Most people who flash their vehicles are too afraid to speak with VW for the fear of warranty issues and let things be. I'm surprised that such a reputable APR dealer here is not being helpful, I wonder what would the case be if you approached lesser known ones.

yes they may have heaps of happy customers but what about the unhappy ones?
just because you don't hear from them doesn't mean they don't exist.

That's exactly how I'm prepared to try out the second tune. Pay first, a 'money back if unhappy' period.

and when the give you a refund, they don't charge you a restocking fee..

I'm presented with a specific problem and need a solution.
Possible solutions:
1. Go back to original tuner to get 100% stock tune reflashed onto my ECU -- They are adamant the APR code is gone and everything is back to original.
2. Go to VW dealer service and ask them to reflash my ECU -- (I have no warranty complications as it's more than 3yrs old) I don't know if there's a cost associate with this (a feeling of why should I pay for this anyway comes into my mind).

no worries mate.
but i think APR should come to the table and tell you the truth if your "current" stock tune is truly Stock or is it APR's stock.
and yes, you shouldn't have to pay for any costs (if there are any) to revert your ECU to true stock.

I had to pay to remove the file from the last car . $50 . Just take that into consideration when going for a trial from APR

Not really a case of the tune being bad. More a case of the tune is stopping me from comparing it with another tunes and the only people who can easily solve this issue for me are not helping.

GIAC Software overwrites the ecu and also repairs and fixes the EEPROM and puts it back to original VW coding.

I was told by a GIAC dealer that quote "The stock file is very close to the real stock file but don't forget it cannot be the same as there will be 2 files in the ecu" so original it is not but apparently undetectable by VW?

I have received a reply from APR USA to confirm that post the 6hr trial, the information on the ECU is a 'stock calibration' not 100% VW Stock.

Here's the quote from the email:

'After 6 hours the ECU goes back to stock calibration however there is still APR software present in the ECU. To remove the APR software you will need to take the vehicle back to the APR dealer so they can flash the car back to stock.

Sounds like the various APR dealers here in Aus have been telling fibs then about their "stock" software.

It could be worse.

I've heard of a case (different company and country) where the wrong trial map was loaded and the car was detuned afterwards to a lower spec model.

I'll see if I can dig out a link.

Even if you use BDM to remove the 'trial' maps and then replace this with the original stock file back in the proper mapping areas the car will not start. You have to get APR to remove their tune AND return the other areas of the ECU back to stock
Revo,uni and some others do the same too I'm not sure if GIAC do though. If someone has tried to use a bluefin on a Giac tuned car and it works then it's all good if it doesn't then add them to the list as well.
They can restore your ECU back to stock. I've had cars go back and then afterwards we can happily communicate with the ECU once more. Happy days !!!
