  • Golf R dp options-need help!

    Hi guys!

New to the forum. Thought I'd kick it off with a plea fir help lol

golf R dp options- this is what I know...

Apr dp bolts on to stock $2495

Milltek dp does not bolt on to stock

Supersprint- all I know is they do a full tbe, don't know if their dp bts on to stock and no idea about price

custom job- no idea where to go in Sydney or anywhere else in Oz for that matter and not sure if any gains would be made as I'd be unsure if they were making the dp to the specs required for gains in a Golf R. No idea of price either.

Are there any other options other than apr? My budget unfortunately does not go that far but it looks like very good kit. I hsd amkv gti previously with a eurojet dp for 800 that was awesome

I would really appreciate any, I mean any suggestions/advice on how/where/who to buy a dp from for my R

    thanks heaps!

    Welcome to the forums Adno01.

You also need to budget for a Stage II tune.
In the case of the APR Downpipe, it includes a free update from their Stage I ECU to Stage II ECU. Other aftermarket ECU options may or may not charge more for the Stage II tune, depending on the brand. Without one of the Stage II tunes, you'll get CEL errors (Check Engine Light) and your car will enter limp mode.

So keep that in mind, because you'll also need to budget for an ECU to be installed at the same time, or ASAP after the installation of the DP/Cat

On the downpipe itself, APR and Milltek are the two big names - but as you've mentioned, Milltek make you do the full system according to their site.
There's a company called 42 Draft Design (42DD) which does a downpipe. Greg Roles who's a member here is the local distributor. It's less than half the price of the Milltek and APR options due to the materials used in construction. However, no one has thus far been able to confirm AWD compatability (so, I take it that this means it's not compatible).

As for custom jobs. There are various forum members who speak highly of Hi-Tech Mufflers (a Sydney outfit), but I don't know of anyone who's had them fit a downpipe and "highflow/motorsports" cat to a R. There is a member called andret who had a full exhaust fabricated by Ed from Penrith Performance Exhausts.

I have asked 42DD and as they have not yet gotten their hands on an R, at this stage there is no word on fitment for it with their dumps. Their MKV/VI dump does fit both the GTI and the Pirelli, so it would be close, but until they or I have a crack at getting one put on an R, fraid you will have to look elsewhere. You could contact Mr Brossnan - Hendy in Sydney has a new ceramic/resonated/cat MKVI/V dump for sale, at a very cheap price....not sure if it's still available....but might be an option to try?

none of the current fwd dps fit the awd cars to my knowledge at this point in time.
The guys from Recode in sydney were looking at getting a run of them fabricated soon. May pay to have a chat to them. They were also looking for a development car I believe.

Arthur from Exoticars in North Parramatta i think has had one already made up but dont quote me on it.

Exoticars or Lucas from Eurospeed in Melb would be the two to talk to as im sure they can sort you out quite easily..

Hi Corey r, Tim, Greg and fuzion,

thanks heaps for your replies and thanks fir the great info! I now have some good leads to follow up.

I'm hoping the dp will give it just a little bit more down low so I'm really looking forward to this mod. I have revo stage 1 so this dp and some other bits over time should make it quite snappy!

Ill keep you posted how it goes. Thanks again guys

            cheers

Hey mate, go to HiTech mufflers in the city (Sydney).

They do a lot of the work for the STI upgrades done through the dealer.. as well as rushcutters BMW.

There ajoining shop works on prestige cars like AUDI, FERRARI, PORSCHE and LAMBO.

I have already called up about it, and yes they have something there.. Whatever you need DP, TBE etc.

And it all looks stunningly built, very good quality steel (looks and feels kitchen grade) and not to have a dig.. but there wont be any of this $2500 for just a DP!!

Mind you a TBE will probably be around $2800 but dont quote me. (but its better than the alternatives and they can dyno back up the results if you request).

Im on the NTH SHR too mate and I found them cause they were close and did fantastic work. And the quality is truly second to none. (and yes I dont work for them hahah)

Just saw this that you have written.. If you have the REVO STG 1 (how is it by the way?) then you wont be eligible for a free upgrade to STG 2 if you buy the DP from APR.

Trust me though, at least go have a look at the HiTech.

sorry for the pun, but ive seen some pretty shoddy work from there too over the years.

providing you get the right guy who does it (cant remember his name) you will come out with some quality work though.

ring around, see who you like the most and who helps you the best and go for it.

at the end of the day, you arent keeping the car for the rest of your life these days..

Please share your thoughts and gains with the Revo Stage 1.

I contacted Revo and one of their Sydney dealers to find out the gains in the Stage 1 and they both gave me different figures?

Yes there is something in the pipeline through TurboXS Hornsby but for the poster above it all depends on how urgently its required. Two forum members have offered their cars one DSG one manual . It's still a way off yet. I use them for supplying gear for some of jap brands, all top notch stuff. They are also finalising supercharger kits for the Lotus boys

Would be good to get it organised ASAP I think. The demand is certainly there. Ive received several emails from people already looking for an affordable alternative to the APR dp.

Your right there Tim, I know they have been looking at supporting Euro stuff for a while now, they certainly have the capability both here and OS. It will be interesting to see if they can do a cast bellmouth design at some stage too, space permitting. I've asked for them to consider making it an option to utilise the factory exhausts rear section for those that want a less hektik note but still the benefit of the dump and cat.

Just to let you know, I would be VERY interested in an alternative dp!

I'm pretty sure I'll be taking the custom tune route too..
