Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • APR downpipe without Stage 2 software = any problems?

    Hi first off not sure if this is in the right forum, so mods feel free to move it or merge to correct forum/thread

    I have a Golf GTI, with APR stage 1+2 intake currently installed.

    Have the APR downpipe sitting in my garage. If i install this i know i get the CEL (Check Engine Light) however will i be doing any damage or stuff anything up while i drive the car WITHOUT any ecu upgrade (running stock software).

    PS: I will be getting stage 2+ ecu software from APR, however i need to drive there

    Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Thanks
    Sold - Nissan Silvia S15 JDM
    Current - VW Golf GTI MK6 (Candy White, 5-Door, DSG, Bi-xenons, RVC)

    I'm not sure whether you could cause damage to anything, but from what I know, when you get the CEL error, the car can go into "limp mode" or "fail safe" mode to protect itself in case there was actually a problem. Which means the trip between you and the dealer may be a slow and uncomfortable one.

    I'm sure Guy_H will be along to confirm whether you'd have anything to worry about for the drive between your place and the dealer.

          WOT = Wide Open Throttle.

          In other words, take it easy until you can get the Stage 2 software installed.
