  • OBD port display

Hi everyone. When my mate bought his Subaru, it came with an aftermarket display that plugs into the OBD port. It can't change any settings, but displays real time revs, speed, various temperatures etc.
Does anyone have anything similar, or at least know where I could get one for myself?
    Thanks

That would be a scan gauge, I think someone on here was selling them a while back.

Some of these won't display manifold pressure on say a Mk5 GTI for example In fact I don't think any do on the GTI as that parameter seems to have been left out in the ECU when it comes to producing OBDII stlye data. VCDS works fine of course as its using a different protocol
Still if its for another model then you might want to look at these beasties.....
ECUDatascan - Products inbuilt GPS too with much more functionality over the scanguage. It depends on what you need of course.

OT, For what its worth the Subaru gauges you are talking about were either one of the above, a Deltadash, a limitless.co.nz dash, a WPSM, or another one that escapes me atm. These all log a large number of parameters at very high speed using the Subaru select monitor protocol

I bought the Scan Gauge after trying with an ECUDatascan on three different cars for some weeks.

Was the ECUDatascan unreliable, too hard to use or just had too many unnecessary (for you) features?

Also, has anyone used the Kiwi WiFi which broadcasts the ODB data to a WiFi reciever (eg a smart phone, laptop) running a suitable app?

It seems to allow monitoring of more parameters and you could potentially write your own custom app if you didn't like any of the existing ones.

Also there was a thread in the past, asking about the OBDKey but no one confirmed whether it worked properly or not.

...and that's where i bought mine. Excellent service!

After about four custom firmware upgrades, all the time dealing directly with the person who wrote the software, it still wouldn't work properly on my Skoda Roomster, Polo GTi or Honda Insight.

I ordered the Scangauge, plugged it into the Roomster outside the post office - and have never had to touch it since. It just works.

Very strange you had problems.I have one here that I hardly use and it works fine on most Euros as long as you select the correct protocol. I did have a problem with an earlier cable on my A3 though and it burnt out the whole cable interface. There was a mod done later to fix it and its was only because some of the euros have power on pin 1 (or is it 16) unlike the rest of the world. If the datascan no longer worked on anything afterwards then it could be a stuffed interface.
The earlier mark 1 datascan was a bit bland

Oh it would still work... if I went through a reconnection and boot-up process every time I started the car... and stuff like that.

Very Weird... yes that would pi55 me off. When mine was stuffed it would still work as in power up but nothing would talk to the ECU no matter which protocol I selected in the options menu. A while back I talked to him about supporting VAG stuff in the same way that VCDS does and he said it could be done but there were a few other brands to support first. He's recently added some of the stand alone ECU's to his list which is handy for some.
Anyway end thread aside I'd still be keen to hear if the scanguage will display manifold pressure in the mk5's if it does I'll be very impressed
