  • DNA Tuning Open Discussion Thread

Greetings everyone; as a new sponsor for this section of the forum, I would like to invite all VWWC users who have any questions or requests regarding DNA Tuning's products to ask here; I will do my best to answer all questions in as much detail as possible.

As someone who is fairly new to this community; I understand that I may be unaware of the needs of the users on this forum - as such I would love to get input from fellow users.

Feel free to throw any question at me; whether it's regarding availability, model support, pricing, benefits, advantages (and disadvantages), features, options, after-sales support, warranties.

As I am in this for the long haul; I am more than happy to hear any feedback or comments, both positive and negative; in cooperation with DNA Tuning UK I am sure all criticism can be used constructively to better improve our services for the Australian market.

Thankyou to those who have chosen to get their car upgraded with a DNA Tuning ECU program recently; it is much appreciated and I hope you will enjoy it for years to come.

    I'll kick off then...

What options do you have for the Golf R? I looked on that website (all prices in pommie pesos by the way), but whilst the VW list was extensive, I couldn't see a listing for the R 2.0L on there. There's a few people on here looking at stuff for the R, so if you could give details, prices, dyno maps etc I'm sure it'd get some interest.

      Dear Pepe,

DNA Tuning UK have done some R's already as part of their development phase and are still making some small improvements over time; until this has been finalised, the programs will not be supplied to international dealers. Furthermore, due to limitations in the equipment I currently use, I do not support any of the MK 6 range, but that is soon to change as I will be receiving a number of upgrades from DNA in early 2011.

As much as I would recommend people to wait to see what's in store in the near future, I can totally understand if they opt for one of the existing available options at this stage, such as from APR. I can almost say for sure however that DNA Tuning's R program will be one of the most affordable option when it becomes available, whilst exhibiting high levels of quality, refinement, and power gains that DNA programs have always provided in the past.

I do agree that the website is not tailored well to the regions around the globe; I will pass on comments that I've received from others as well as my own thoughts about it to DNA Tuning HQ to see if some improvements can be made! Cheers!

In the meantime, I will seek to obtain details on power gains, as well as dyno charts and an approximate price on the R upgrade for those who have not made up their mind yet and are willing to wait to explore their options.

The Golf R upgrade should see similar gains to the Audi S3.

If only it was as easy as porting over the Audi S3 remap to fit in the Golf R ECU

I would love to see someone assides from ABT with a Polo tune. I think it's underestimated how popular it could be.

              Hello John,
I'm interested in what you can do for my Mk 4 GTI. 47 HP is claimed on the DNA website. I'd be impressed if that was achievable. Do you have a dealer in Sydney? And what are the approximate costs please.

                Hi Merlin,

The Mk 4 1.8T is quite detuned from the factory compared to other 1.8T in the VAG family, and that is why 47hp gain is possible.

At present, there are no dealers in Sydney; normally I service interstate customers via our portable handheld SRS-II flasher/switcher unit but in the case of your Mk 4, the ECU will need to be sent to me to get the upgrade performed as it is slightly older.

In line with current promotional pricing for the Mk V, I am able to offer the upgrade for $730 for the Mk 4. Please contact me if you have any additional questions or would like to arrange an upgrade, cheers!

It will definitely be coming some time in 2011, just not sure when. How is the power in stock form anyway? Does it feel particularly strong or weak in certain regions of the powerband?

Current range of TDI models are not yet supported here in Australia yet due to limitations in my equipment; I will be receiving a range of upgrades in the very near future and would be more than happy to contact you when it becomes available (Jan or Feb).

Pricing will be $880, although I am considering extending my promotional price of $730 into the new year as well.

Gains for the TDI 170 are +24kW and +55Nm.

                        Hi John,

Just read your post in the other thread re tuning for the MKV R32. I'm keen, but would like to know more about how the interstate tuning process works. I mean, is it as simple as plugging in the unit, hitting the 'go' button, unplugging the unit and enjoying the new found engine responsiveness? Have DNA's tunes ever been known to cause problems of any sort?

My R32 already has a Evo Motor Sports intake kit, but everything else is stock. Would this make any difference to the tune needed, or is it a one size fits all?

How many $ would I be looking at all up (incl shipping of the flasher, etc)?

                        Cheers, Brad.

                          Hi Brad,

It's almost as simple as what you've described; when you receive the SRS-II package, simply plug it into your OBD port; it will read your stock engine data and store it within itself.

The next step is that you will need to install the DNA software on a Windows PC and connect it to the SRS-II via supplied USB cable to copy the file from the SRS-II onto your computer which you send to us. The upgraded maps are transferred into your file and we send this upgraded program back to you.

This program is transferred onto the SRS-II again via USB cable, and then the SRS-II is now ready to upgrade your car. You can then switch back and forth without the use of the PC thereafter. The unit, once mated to your car, will identify your VIN and will only ever work with your car.

All instructions and everything you need (other than a Windows PC of course) is included in the package.

In line with current promotional price for the 2.0TFSI, the R32 upgrade software is $730, and $260 for the SRS-II unit including shipping which brings the total to $990.

Intake modified are fine as long as the MAF sensors are left unchanged, so in this case having an EVOMS intake will be totally fine.

If you would like to place an order please contact me, cheers.

Thanks John. Sounds nice and easy, and also somewhat fun. Will you honour that price for another week or two? Payday isn't until the 15th and Santa has first dibs. Am definitely keen though.

Oh yeah, and what happens if I wanted to change the exhaust down the track?
