Anti Roll Bar

Just a pic of my anti roll bar mounted up to the powder coated lowered back axle ready to mount up.



Mounted up the axle today and the shockers dont clear in the bottom position, as the axle was made for standard size inserts. My Bilsteins are too wide. BAH. This means that they dont angle back far enough to mount in the top mounts. Dont want to bend the shockers, try again tomorrow.

What is the stop for the back axle for when it is hanging as low as it can be? Is it the petrol tank? or the struts? Can I compress the struts and stick em in? Or grind a bit off the axle.

Before you think of any of that, consider whether you're using matched lowered springs and shortened struts and not a 'frankenstein' kit as this a bad idea on a car that easily lifts the inside wheel.

I`m using a matched febi bilstein setup. Nice struts and insers, just tripped up by the modified axle. I wanted it to sit lower and still have suspension travel, but the bilstein strut is fatter that the stock one and so just fouls the inside of the mounting tube.

Ah yes, I see what you mean. You should carefully modify the mounting area with a grinder for clearance

Kissed it a bit with a grinder. Couldnt get it on the bottom setting, but have it nicely on the middle setting. Bar looks good car sits on the wheels and has suspension travel. Still not as low as I`d hoped. Will the springs settle? The car still has no interior or engine, so theres weight to be added. Pics tomorrow in daylight.

look forward to the photos... fuel aswell which will drop the back shocks down a bit . and they should settle coupla months?

Fuel. Thats a good point. Back seats etc weigh a bit

Pic of underneath. Check out the blue powdercoated fuel filler neck courtesy of Syncro. The Blue anti roll bars to match and the axle finally snugged up with the shocks and springs.

Yes, it looks massive, still If I put 17s, should lessen the gap. Hmmm

Looking good!! Good feeling when it all starts to come together!
Sitting a little high but it will settle down a bit! Only way to slam them down really low is with a coilover kit....but they cost big $ obviously!

That's not my car! He has used a very similar name (tassiemk1). I know the car and it has 16s from memory!
I've got 17s on my MK3 and they are planty big enough for the size of car!Have had 18s before on a MK4 and cost of tyres was a killer! Don't think I would want to go beyong 15s on a MK1......but they would look sweet!

Stick to 15s on a mk1.

The trouble with that is that they look like nothing by modern standards.
If you can fit a 15 with a big tyre, surely you can fit 17s with low profiles?
