  • APR Stage 2 on MKV GTI

I have searched and searched and still am unsatisfied with the facts about this mod. As far as I am aware the APR stage 2 tune requires a Carbonio intake and panel filter and at least a APR dump pipe section.
Is the Carbonio required so that the re-flash is accurate? as the re-flash would have been tuned and developed with the carbonio intake.
Has anyone got anything good to say about this upgrade as I have mainly heard that customers dont feel a difference? All I would be expecting is an extra 10 - 12 kw@wheels with this mod and hopefully a 13.7 - 13.9 quarter mile
Anyone with dyno sheets or who has facts about this mod without the BS opinions, please holler!
    Cheers.

Stage 2 does not require an intake, but it is recommended. The official APR figures (Stage 2) are taken with Carbonio & full exhaust.

Generally we see ~ 7 - 9wkw when you upgrade from stage 1 to 2.

It will not cause much bother if you have the stock intake, you will be missing some horsepower.

Not sure how much 7 - 9kw @ the wheels will equate to your 1/4 mile time!

Dean at Volkspower recently did some dyno testing of stage 1 / 2 & with airbox on his MKVI DSG - he has them at his shop for viewing if you want to have a look! - similar results to the MKV.

      Hmmmm 7 - 9

I am told that some guys have hit a high 13 with this mod, more BS storys maybe.

Cheers Guy, that clears things up.

I know the Volkspower car did 11 extra KW with a full exhaust, so downpipe will be less - and its always good to be conservative on the numbers - as you know, dyno figures vary a lot!

For anyone interested, I have found a full APR 3" system and once fitted I hope to have the car dyno'd (on the same dyno in the same mode) to compare power gains with my original dyno run... which was run with stage 1 tune only.

            Adzy,
I'm keen to hear the results.
Just to be clear are you hitting the dyno with a stage 1 chip and 3inch system, or have you upgraded your chip?

When you fit an APR system they give you the stage 2 tune for free to encourage brand loyalty. The tune is more of a safety net rather than a performance increase though... the power gain is from the exhaust.

The APR stage 1 tune gave me 146.9 kw@ wheels... which supprised a few of the non APR guys I am just waiting till i get a CAI then will chuck her on the rollers

                I'm soooo jealous!

I have a stage 1 GIAC chip and picked up a 3 inch exhaust on Saturday but is only from catback.
Wish I had the dump pipe off the turbo!

Not sure if the exhaust will compliment a stage 1 tune or not.
Will have to do some research.

Word is that a cat back will give you around 3 kw@wheels. The dump pipe is where the power's at!

Went to Heathcote Drags today and done a couple of runs. I now have the Stage 2 mod completed, APR tune - Full 3" exhaust and Carbonio intake.

The best I done was a 13.81 @ 101.58 MPH to say I am happy is a major understatement!! I backed that run up with a 13.82 @ 103.81 MPH

I had a few blokes approach me asking WTF I had done to it as most of the blokes at the drags see a hatch back and they laugh at you, but the only laughing of the day was at a HSV GTS owner that I spanked.... his mates let him have it LOL

I might add.... I removed the spare tire and had a 1/2 tank of fuel and was running 15 psi in the fronts.
