  • APR Chipped, but not much more power?!?

    My second post

Finally got my car chipped this week (2.0 TFSI), but haven’t really noticed much of a power increase . The power curve is different, but not really much more peak power.

Which makes me think my $1700 of extra boost is just pissing out somewhere. I replaced the DV a few months ago with the latest revision (piston type), and the PCV has also been replaced with an upgrade BSH ver. I’ve checked all the turbo hosing, and it all appears to be ok.

My best guess is the DV is faulty... (car never quite felt right after replacing it), but can’t test the theory because my old one is definitely shagged (huge rip in it).

Anyone got any ideas, or anyone with a spare DV in Adelaide (don’t care what revision)?

I'd have a chat to your APR dealer they can look over the usual culprits for you.

I switched mine back from stock this week and feel like the flesh in my cheeks is only now making its way back around to the front of my head.

I have never heard of any of the new DVs failing either here or in the US.
Your APR dealer should be able to test how much boost the car is making via vagcom
Either that or look into fitting a boost guage. Despite what many people think theyre actually quite a useful thing to have on a turbo charged car.

Take it back to the guys that chipped it and have them look over it. There should be a very apparent difference in performance.

Taking the car back to where it was chipped was definitely my first idea, it’s just their opening hours and location are a pain in the arse. After getting it chipped I had 2 go to work in bumper traffic, so didn’t really get above 2k RPM till the weekend.

The only reason I’m thinking the DV could be the problem is just because after replacing the old one, the car didn’t feel quite as good as before the DV failed (I def need to purchase a Vagcom cable).

btw, thanks for all the replies, really loving this forum.

Who flashed it for you? I can think of 3 places that do APR and 2 of them aren't that bad to get to and the 3rd I haven't been to.

VAG-COM is a must have item these days.

              Hey Gavin,

I must be living under a rock, there are 3 APR dealers in SA . I looked around for a bit, but could only find German Auto.

Are any of them up north, and preferably open weekends?

There's a Porsche place in the middle of town. Stuwey had his Polo done by them. And there's AVW on Richmond Road. German Auto used to be open Saturday mornings, you can't really take it anywhere but them, if you want 'warranty' style work done.

Andrew would sort you out I am sure, he's a top bloke IMO. Has helped me out in the past and I recommend him to anyone looking for decent service.

                Cheers

                Gavin

PS Just looked at APRs website, AVW no longer APR dealers.

I am not saying there's a problem with APRs software as there won't be.
Any hardware that is below par, will come to the surface pretty soon after flashing an ECU.

Sparkplugs, coilpacks DVs etc need to be working 100%.

                      Chowie,

Give us a call if you need any help 1300 730 949.

We have seen in 4 cases (in QLD) where the new type DV does not sit 100% correctly in is seat & can let boost escape. There is a locating pin on the DV that makes you put it in the right way, but there is still a movement possibility (around .5mm) & we have seen them not seal - its a simple check with the car in the air to remove & re seat it (move it side to side & centre it) - look for any wear marks on the plastic piston.

Then you can run VCDS logs on requested & actual boost. Mind you, if the boost was out a percentage that would indicate a faulty DV or PCV, it would throw a fault code like this:

For APR trouble shooting & logging - check here:

                      FYI:

German Auto & Buik Motorworks are our official APR dealers.

AVW have not been an APR dealer for more than 6 years.

PS Just looked at APRs website, I guess AVW dropped out? A guy there said it was a hassle when customers have problems such as you are experiencing.
This is simply not the case. I suggest you get facts together rather than start rumors (especially on 6 year old information).

Got the inpresion that Buik Motorworks specialised in Porche only, so hence the only remaining choice being on the other side of town.

Like I said in my original post, this isn't so much a chipping problem, but a turbo system leak issue. Would have been good if some diagnostics were run on the car after chipping to make sure things were all good before me driving away, but then again I was in a rush anyway.

We have seen in 4 cases (in QLD) where the new type DV does not sit 100% correctly in is seat & can let boost escape.
This was my thinking Guy_H, while the piston type DV's are way stronger, the way they seal doesn't seem quite as full proof as the old rubber seal.

Correct Chowie, Buik are our Porsche specialists down there, German Auto for the VW / Audi stuff.

The diagnostics may not show anything, depending on whats wrong.

Let me know if we can help you further!

Have you been stood next to me for the 4 years, I have lived in Australia Guy? I don't recall ever meeting you?

So maybe they weren't dealers when I was in the office. There were APR leaflets on the counter though. What would you expect me to think?

So how would you know how the conversation went?

                              Gavin,

I would suggest in the future that you allow me to answer any APR related inquiries, on the product, our support or dealers. (feel free to email me if you like in case I miss any posts).

If anyone asks me (on the forum or in person) anything about "Custom Code" software, I will happily pass on your contact details without making any "assumptions" on your service or support.

As you know from our previous telephone conversation, people do pick up & report what you say on the forum's, via PM or via email.

                              Common courtesy.
