Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

You can buy about 100 for about $15 from China, you just have to identify which style of chip suits the MK3, if I can dig up the information I had before I'd tell you exactly what the chipset code is.

According to their FAQ's, they use a VEMS inside and then modify the I/O to suit the VAGs. I read about the VEMS a while back but it was very limited at that time but it now looks more capable widely used. I'm Interested to see how they cater for the Mk 1V's with DBW and CAN stuff. Very interesting though it certainly would solve a lot of pain if indeed it can be interfaced to your cars existing gear http://www.vems.hu/wiki/

so after my melbourne trip i figure i'm going to keep it simple and actually run my motor in before i get the urge to mess with it again.

            then megasquirt hahaha.

Mark, i'd be interested to ask you a few things about these ecus as it would seem you're one of the few people in the know.

Yeah no problem but don't quiz me too deeply on some of the other vehicle details and I'll be right. I'm still very much in learning mode in that regard. Just drop me a PM and I'll flick you a number
btw do you have any more specific details re the ECU. I was looking on my support site to see just how far back they go with their roms and definitions. I can see the Seat Ibiza 2L 8V but there are actually a couple of ECU variants most have a 27C256 eprom but I don't know if this is socketed or soldered in place. There's no mention of a GTI or was the 2L considered a GTI model even though it was non-turbo.
Anyway I have a list of ECU hardware and software editions for them and if its one of them your in luck. I'm not in sales mode by the way as its kind of interesting with the older stuff. I've even been buying more Eprom related gear today. Its funny how you get rid of things thinking they are obsolete and then 10 or more years later your trying to find all the stuff you threw in the bin.

I'm sure my ecu is socketed, or atleast from my copious amounts of failed research, it is. it's effectively the same ecu as a golf mk3 2.0 8v.

i know all about throwing things away that are important. i threw away a mk2 gti manual steering rack. before i realised it was crucial to driving...
