Just on a point of accuracy you blokes.

A thicker head gasket will reduce compression as it will make the combustion chamber bigger. You want this on a Turbo engine as it can handle more air.
On a N/A motor you want to increase the compression to make a bigger bang and go faster. Really you need to change the pistons or mill the head to achive this.

Steve you should just put all the good stuff you have there together and have a car that works. Then whilst you are driving it, build a turbo motor on a stand and then slot it in.

the mk4 head gasket is thinner and bumps compression up to 10.5:1 instead of 10:1 I believe

I understand what you are saying mate and from our conversation over the weekend I think what you are saying is a good idea. I will give you a call in the arvo regarding tomorrow morning and the engine!

Interesting food of thought. Most likely I will ge the current engine put back together it was a good engine apart from the pinging which I wasn't able to find though it was running lean, at I think 14.1 or something like that in Nov 07 when it was dyno'd (wow **** me thats a long time ago ) I have now got some good contacts. No doubt I will build another engine for a turbo suitable for it!

Either way the car was fast enough especially at its top end it had no problems with A4 quattros with a K04 through certain roads!

Ok so after some deliberation I have decided to keep this engine as how it is and build another for a turbo setup

On another question Pulleys, would a lightweight pulley set make a difference at all?

I have already noted that its pretty gargantuan at the moment though

either way I am seriously looking at those URST pulleys polished
