  • What cars have you raced?

    Hey guys,
For those of you who have flashed your ECU's/Chipped i am curious to know what car's have you ran and did you beat them?

For example, have you previously gone up against a Civic Type R and lost, and then chipped your car and re-ran another Type R and won?

We are talking on track here arent we, as no body condones that type of driving on the streets!
      What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

          Sorry guys,

To clarify a little further, what cars have you ran on the track after some upgrades to your car, such as chip, exhaust, front mount cooler etc.

APR Stage 1 ECU on a Mk5 GTI....pretty much round up any factory V8 Falcodore (sub 260kw versions) on a race track, straight past SS V8 on the straight.

Catch many of them under brakes.....maybe I am just stupider than them?

Mine was a bit unfair as it was a stage 3 GTI, but it beat & embarrassed a lot of cars on the track.

Mid you, there is a white or silver Honda type R that runs at QLD Raceway & It's blindingly fast & I wouldn't like to come up against it in a near stock GTI.

That must be Tim's car you're talking about.
Yeah it's a cracking car that. Has 183KWatw in NA form and its only a 2.1L.

Not sure how you're going out at QR lately, or whether you've improved your times since i last saw some results, but Tim's DC5R does a 59sec time on the Sprint Config. The last time i saw, your best time in the Stage3 was something in the region of 61.1 which means that it would competely (dare i say it) devastate just about any GTI in OZ.
I'm not a Honda advocate or anything but you've got to give it to em sometimes. It is an incredible feat for a street driven/registered atmo 4 cylinder with only the rear seat taken out, to be able to rumble with the likes of GT3s.

Yep Beeza, I couldn't match his times - mind you, I was just mucking around & had that catastrophic failure on the main straight that was lucky not to kill me!

He was in a different group, would have been fun to see how we went trying to keep up with each other, I was having fun in my group with a Turbo XR8

has anyone seen the 999 dc5 out on the track? have only had a quick look over it but it looks like a weapon.

Damn. That's big power from a little NA engine.

I've dusted two MkV GTIs. I haven't done any modifications myself but am aware of a DV and exhaust change - I'm positive it's been chipped too because otherwise a near stock MkIV wouldn't be as quick.

Plenty of other boring cars... No one else really wants a go haha

I hope these races took place in a controlled environment like a racetrack/dragstrip.

Yes, i'd say that your car would need a chip for increased boost to even have a chance. Motor Magazine quote 16.3 sec 1/4mile for your car (stock). The MkV is in the 14s (stokck) so you can't even compare the two technically.
And yes, that is a lot of power extracted from that K20A in the DC5. Mind you a figure near 25K was spent on that engine, using premium hardware like TODA. I think it has TODA everything.
AFAIK, there is no feeling like a powerful NA engine on full noise. The power delivery is linear in general, and seems almost endless. Persoanally, i love it.
That DC5 beats EVOs and STIs down the main straight so it really does move along. With slicks it would easily do mid 12s, possible 11s, i reckon. I've read about one with similar specs do mid 12s on another forum.

there is a whole subform on street races on the golfmkv forum: http://golfmkv.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41

not to lie, i have had a few encounters on the street with a few jap/jdm cars, new wrx, evo8mr, fords, etc. but i only went through if there was a long stretch, conditions were right and noone would be in danger.

As safe as it seems, you can never be too sure, on the street that is. The safest bet is a racetrack as its as controlled as it can be with an ambulance at hand, with no telegraph poles, children, unaware roadusers..... I will admit that i have done some very silly things on the street, so i'm no saint but these days i'm keeping it on the track. It's just simply not worth risking it in my opinion. As many of you already know, one of our own passed away (Chris) recently. I'm willing to bet that his loss of control would have been nowhere near as fatal as it turned out for him if he was in a controlled type environment.
This thread is soo off topic so we should just get back to ECUs & chips or whatever this thread started out as.
