K&N Filters

I've got a K&N panel filter in my current car (Not a vw sadly), it helped a little with the engine when you rev it out (revs out more freely) and it changed the engine note a little (but more throaty).
Some people have put them in cars and dynoed them, I think the best I've read about is a 1-2kw increase...I have my RED , 3DR MKV GTI with leather in manual and I love it!

Yeah, in my opinion. Noticeable when you switch from a paper to gauze (K&N or other) a nicer induction sound knowing your definately less restrictive on the intake. Only comment I have on K&N is the rubber lining to fit inside the standard airbox seems a bit too thick. I found it difficult to close the airbox. I currently have a JR filter (blue dye colored instead of red for K&N) with a good fit in the standard air box. I dont know if its the same with other air boxes & K&N but for the MK2 GTI (33-2020 K&N part No.) this is what I can add to the thread. Company reply to my comment about the thick rubber was "to provide a better seal"
As for the money, depends which type was quoted to you at $110 ? Just the filter element in standard air box or a cone kit ? My filter elements only costed around $60sigpic MK2 GTI G60

Mine was a very tight fit as well, I actually got the guys at the service to put it in in the end because I wasn't certain that it was sealing properly. They managed to get it in okay...I have my RED , 3DR MKV GTI with leather in manual and I love it!

As has been said already, a K&N will help your engine suck in air easier.
The good thing too about K&N's is that they have one for pretty much any make of car, even my old '86 Mazda 626 carby
I am thinking of putting an apexi power intake into my golf vr6 instead though, why? To be a bit different, and because of this: http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/.1996 Golf VR6 Colour Concept Green

Looking good mate. I really noticed the difference at high revs although it does sound nice full stop. Make sure the throttle is opening all the way. I put a new throttle cable in when I had a pipercross and all of a sudden it sounded medieval

It isn't quite as deep as my old hacked up airbox thanks to Beaubut it has better sounding note, it also seems to rev a bit easier. Will give it a good test on the way upto sydney tomorrow.
