  • MEL.specialist wanted to dial-in a cam.

Does anyone know a specialist in Melbourne, pref. Inner city/ sth. east suburbs who can dial-in a camshaft???...I've just received this as one of the last pieces of the Preeny motor puzzle:

, and now need someone who knows exactly what they're doing to set it up right...

Mark, best place to do that is on a dyno. Fit the pulley with the marks at the std position. then advance the cam for top end power and retard it for mid range.

You can use your butt dyno if needed.

I used to play with mine all the time. Move a couple of degrees at a time in one direction and make notes how it feels. Won't take you long to get it right.

I got nearly 20hp when I fitted a vernier pulley and dialled it in over the std VW one.

h100vw is totally right, i had my vernier pulley dialed in on the dyno aswell doing full power runs again and again playing with the pulley to get it just right for maximum power gain. I gained 8kw's at the wheels with 4 degrees advance.

thanks guys. I'll fit up the new pulley first...

one guy i know with a dyno said it was out of his expertise (but he is a carby/FI specialist)

thanks for the name of the guy in Kilsyth too Pete...if i can't find one closer, might have to take the beast out there.

To start with just line the keyways up and then set the vernier so the teeth match the std VW pulley. Fit it and Bob's your uncle.

How much lift does the cam have?

that I'm not sure, as I didn't build the motor...fitted the vernier today anyway, but I'm going to bite the bullet and take the car to a specialist to dial-in the cam and dyno for me...life's too short when you've got kids to be stuffing around on something an expert can do in a few hours !!

Any other recommendations..trying to get closer to home .....(Brighton)??
