  • Garret and K04

Does anyone have the specs for a k04 I cannot get them anywhere!, trying to see which garret is closey matched. I assume its the GT2560 but I have read the 28rs is not far off too. Any ideas ?

skip the K04 mate and get the GT28rs, its the next 'step up' but it'd be worth it Shouldn't cost much more!

yer for sure, i will most likely get a disco potato, but i am very curious to know the specs on the 020, just in case a t28 off a silvia comes up rather than a potato. ( I will have a k04 map so matching a garret to it would mean less effort in tuning)

disco potatoe? Im not down with the lingo bingo

I cant see how a K04 Map would have any troubles running the GT28RS. The map would just not optimise the bigger turbos potential thats all? Plus it gives you more room to move later on when you inevitably get more power hungry

oh, disco potato is lingo for the 28rs don't know why it got the name!, Yer the map will run it but I can acutually get a map to run the 28rs, I guess its more of a back up incase I find the 28rs to laggy (which i don't it will be)

                ohhh i see!

the GT28rs WILL be more laggy, but the increase in performance on boost will be well and truly worth it

I don't know much about ECU tuning, but given all the variables of one turbo to another, I'd be doing A LOT of research before expecting a tune to work with a different turbo and not have negative (if not catastrophic) results.

Be aware, that the extra power devived with a different turbo could severely effect the life of your:
                      - engine
                      - gearbox
                      - clutch

                      Just to name a few...

Also, to get much more power than you already have, you're likely to need a better: Fuel pump, manifold, intake system, exhaust.

Sorry if I'm repeating what you already know or someone else has already said.

                        its all good mate.

Yer i have done a **** load of research,

You CAN run a GT28rs (stock internals) with the right tune, you just have to run the correct timing and watch the fueling to avoid a "leg out of bed"

Engines all good its only got 35k

Clutch is a race spec and thats all good

Gearbox is a concern but hey, we all want a 02a with a peloquin at some stage don't we!

i have a front mount, etc etc, injectors won't be an issue and I already have a 2.5 exhaust turbo back, with a surge tank and 044 to be installed soonish.

                        so its all good

tar for the sites I frequent them a fair bit already, oh and if anything above fails ill just have to fix it!

yeah ur wasting time with ko4 go the gt28 lag what lag? mine kicks in at 3300 and it doesnt take long, as for internals the motor is fine unless you go past 280 300hp i wouldnt go past that with stock pistons rings etc, at the moment im engine out putting new pistons ,rods, inlet manifold also a lot of heatshielding is a good idea it gets hot in their, prob new oil pump and oil cooler to, im running adaptronic youll have to go standalone and get it tunned and you do need a dyno its worth the money! but good luck with the whole thing mate
GT-28-VW sigpic three hundred and something days till get licence back , couldnt resist that corrolla needed to teach it a lesson
