Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

i thought id start a new thread on this as i didnt want to hijack this thread

after reading this thread its really got me thinking about buying one of these intakes^^^

especially because i will be doing the 3.94 ring and pinion conversion soon
if i combine this, plus the intake and the 288 cams it just might be worthwhile?

i think GIAC does a chip that works well with a good set of cams

this thing will be sweet shotgun having a ride in it!

Interesting to read most people don't think much of it...I'll be keen to see what Schimmel say because that does sound cheap.

why such a large cam with no head work and being a daily driver? doesn't add up . . . plus I thought you wanted forced induction?! Do you have a direction with your build?

I did a bit of research also with these short runners and n/a engines and came to the conclusion that it was a bad idea and poorly made, though if you feel it's the right thing to do, do it and post up your results so we know if it's the goods or not? I even wrote to schimmel regarding this and even they threw a dyno graph at me with nice power gains but like i said, every tech head says no its a bad idea?

yeah i dunno about this one either. On the basis of one dyno plot. Id be after some more solid proof. Its a lotta money to blow if it gives you less power. As above it just goes against what people in the know say. For similar money you could come across a schrick intake with proven gains.

yeah im a bit back and forth with fi my motor has done over 200 thousand so iv decided against it

im only throwing these ideas out to see what people think, nothing has been decided yet and i can assure you il be doing my homework before rushing in and buying these things
alex you wouldnt remember where you did this research do you wouldnt mind a read myself

man i was just surfing around the tex and the web, following links and reading till my eye's bled

I'm by no means saying it's all a load of crapola, it may be true? if someone wants to sponsor me, i'll buy one and throw it on mine and vs it against the schrick . . . lol

now im just thinking out loud here bare with me
the only reason i blurted out 288 cams was because this guy said this

"i wouldnt get the short runner inless you get big cams like 288s and a 3.94 r&p to make up for the bottom end loss"

after reading that i got excited

now me being noob about all this performance stuff
some one correct me if my logic seems stupid or wrong
due to having installed my 3.94 r&p this gives me bottom end power (acceleration off the line)
now if i do get this short runner this gives me top end power does it not?

for me to achieve mid range power im thinking of getting a cam

now what sort of cam is a good question?
one might ask someone who hopefully knows what there talking about

feed me info guys i wana keep this topic rollin

not that ive done cams in mine or anything but from readin heaps about it on vortex, id say if you dont have heaps of head work done, possibly to the point of a big valve head, the biggest cams which would really be useful would be 268's by someone like techtonics or something.

thats just the general feeling ive come to by readin a far bit about it on Tex anyway

i was doing some reading on autotech sport tuning they are selling a set of 262 cams
apparently great for mid range power
