No benefit that I can see unless you needed to be under 1600 for a race series or something.

It'd rev it's arse off though being so short stroke.

Prolly gutless low down like a 1600 GTI nowt up to 4000.

I wouldn't go to all the trouble.

Use the 1600 block and build all the 16V guts into it maybe and retain the capacity.

Ok, so swapping heads is out. Looking for more power elsewhere then. The car has had a cam grind, 10,000 bore and new pistons, intercooler, oil cooler, cold air induction, pod filter, supercharger (toyota 4AGZE charger i think), bigger injectors and fuel pump, only thing i can think of is putting bigger valves in it. Any one got any ideas?

Dont know anything about the supercharger but if you can spin it faster you'll get more boost which is more power.

That will involve altering the fuelling and timing too.

Yep, I think you're right on that one. As far as I'm aware, the rules don't allow use of the later polo 1600 twin cam in a Golf 1 - perhaps because it's not a factory Golf engine... I'm not sure on that, though.

Here's some engine specs on one [my French translation isn't brilliant, sorry]:

And yep, that's over 230hp in an old-type NA 1600

Good for entering corners fast enough to do this :p

Valver is that 230hp at the fly wheel or at the wheels???

In regards to the supercharged golf waht ECU are you running??? Putting something like MoTeC will help you in the go fast area...

                  [QUOTE=ausgolfer]

                  As for bigger valves:
8v yes can be done, usually take Audi 5E valves(same as mk1 1.8L Gti) and valve seats and get a professional to put them in. Bigger valves again are available but cost goes up greatly. And would probably have to be sourced from Europe.

You would think the brakes wouldn't clear the 13's?

Well they must do The BBS motorsport wheels have a stack of brake clearance from what I've read. There's also someone on ClubGTI with 305mm Brembos under Compomotive MOs My 280s hardly fit under my current 15s

That's actually around 200hp/150kW at the wheels

I'd guess around 210Nm of torque very high in the rev range. Most of the dyno vids of the Berg Cup 1600s show them revving to around 10,000rpm
