Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2E info and mods.

As a few of you know im running a 2E in the Mk2 (8v 2.0).
seem common in the UK (used in mk3 GTI and corrados too im led to believe)...
some seats also used it i think.
anyway, just want to know if anyone has any info at all on the motors and what sort of mods respond well to the 2E running K-jet.
hoping to have the head off for some work over the next few months for a new cam and some porting
    Cheers, Benny

Yay! Me too. I'd love to know if anyone has any specs for cams, intake mods, extractors and computer mods i can play with on my 2E (until i get a VR6! )

I'm running the MK3 spec 2E (NOT ABA from later GL's) With VDO injection system. Apart from that don't know much more about my engine...

Help us poor 2E owners out please...

    Cheers
    John

Best mod for K-Jet is to bin it and get a crazy cam and aftermarket injection. My dirty 2L pulls great till 7,000rpm with just those two mods. Everything else is stock.
MK1 floG soon to have 16v 2L with cable change gbox - need a 16v turbo manifold

"Fit the gearbox ya bum." Loon - best post ever!

hey Grant. the injectors are in the manifold mate.
I cant find a whole lot of info on the 2E anywhere....see them in allot of UK mk2 and mk1 pics on the net.

All the cams for the hydraulic heads will go in the 2E to the best of my knowledge.

I wouldn't scrap kjet in favour of standalone, far too big a job IMO. I had a mk1 that did 177bhp @7700, at the crank as an 1800 with a flowed head and 282 degree cam, headers and system. As a 2 litre with the same head it only did 166 but was more torquey. The 1800 would rev much better than the 2 litre as well.

The 1800 was really economical but to get the power from the 2 litre at the top end the thing ran rich everywhere else and was pretty duff on fuel as a result.

I am sure that chips are available in europe for the 2E so you could do a cam and flowed head and get an off the shelf chip for it.

are extractors / headers off the original 1.8 going to fit on the 2E?
I think Andrew ran extractors on it when he had it and lost power, but i want to try some once i get the head work done and see what gains i can make.
                        Cheers, Benny

I got the cam from CVWC (Canberra VW Centre - yes another shameless plug for Pete!!!!) and they also fitted a Microtech. Both of which came from OZ. I would spend another $500 and get a better computer next time, though I really cant complain as this one does an outstanding job for the dollars that I shelled out for it.

i talked to tham over the phone the other day, the guy was insisting that i cant gain much on my mk3 without some serious money, i asked for cams, he said that they will not do much for me, i asked for chip, same answer. i mean he didnt even tried to sell some stuff, strange...

Maybe its just good advice, rather than taking your money for little gain.

The ecu is what holds back your motor if you change the computer you will get big gains with a cam. You could port and polish your head and put a cam in and it`ll go better. Cam on its own is about as usefull as a chip on its own
