  • Mild Upgrade for new MK5 R32

    Hi all,

This is my first post here, i have been coming to this forum quite regularly while i was sizing up which VW to purchase.

That decision has now been made but i am looking for an increase in power over the factory standard.

The MK5 R32 is being delivered in about a week, but i dont know any decent tuners in Adelaide, but a bigger problem i have is sorting what level of upgrade i should go for???

It will be a daily driver for me, and i dont want to void the warranty yet so turbo upgrades will have to wait.

Any advice on either upgrade direction or tuning houses in Adelaide would be great.

    Many thanks,
    Domenico

Chip reflashes won't change your world on the R32 - the effect is mild but effective (particularly at smoothing out the power/torque curves).

I think APR allow you a 6 hour obligation-free trial before you buy, that'd be worth a go if they have a local dealer (check www.goapr.com.au for their dealer list).

As you're in Adelaide, Custom Code may well be an option for you (Gavin who does the CC install is Adelaide based, send a PM to h100vw).

I don't know the availability of GIAC or any other tunes (MTM maybe?) in Adelaide, other locals may be of assistance there.

Many thanks for the info, some good leads there to assess the options. Will keep you posted on the research and would value your opinion before i make a decision on the mods.

look in the Passat area - there's an Adelaide tuner there that has done some R36.

        Turbo upgrades? Please explain?

Thanks Brad, will have a look.

Yes turbo upgrades, HPA have a performance pack which looks enticing but i think it is too early to do this, i need to get to know my golf first.

turbo and supercharger upgrades MAY not void all warranty.

that being said, if you blow your gearbox up after pushin another few pounds of air in there, they wont cover it unless that particular dealership are nice enough to work with you in avoiding letting VW Warranty know about the charger.

might want to have a real good talk with your local dealer, or maybe a nicer one a little further away, about what modifications you can make that they are willing to keep your warranty valid.

if your even thinkin about goin turbo at any point, then this is the least you can do

I reckon the best upgrade is an HGP twin turbo kit than you will leave S3's all-day every day And probably everything else.. And probably still end up cheaper

big SINGLE turbo should make this thing fly

but yes, minor mods would be CAI and chip

In Adelaide i can't find a single supplier to do a simple ECU and DSG upgrade. Does anyone know or has used someone in Adelaide for their R32 upgrades.

Would be willing to go to VIC or NSW to do it as a last resort.

                      Would really appreciate the assistance.

Was at the lights last night and next to me was my wife in the family run about a V6 Aurion. Could only beat her when using launch control. Having said that the V6 Aurion is a pretty quick car with 200KW of power.

Obviously i didn't buy the Golf for straight line performance.

I just emailed Custom-Code to see if there's anything available for you.

                        Cheers

                        Gavin

                        We have files for R32.

PM if you want to know any more info.

if you go to APR and get the 6 hour trial (like i did) it will leave your ecu locked in a way. Now i have to go back to APR and get them to take the "lock" out if i want a different remap.

GIAC has released a DSG flash i think

best to check out all the tuning companies yourself and make the decision!

I'm sorry, that is not true? All trial software works in the same way, regardless of brand. There is no "LOCK".

There is only one product I know of on the market which can not flash over a "trial" and that is because it uses a different flashing technology (inferior).

VW & all the major tuners can easily flash over any form of trial.
