EPC light on dash

Just changed the dump pipe for my mk5 golf gti, it was running ok for few days. Suddenly one day when I start up the car the EPC lights up on my dash. The car have unstable idle and I cant accelerate at all. After reading some thread, disconnecting the battery will solve the problem. Eventually it did, but after a few weeks it happened again. So I need to disconnect again. Anybody had that situation? Is it my dump pipe sensor or is it my ecu playing up? Need to find a way to get that fixed, it is so annoying. Anyone can suggest a solution?
(By the way, been back to the vw service centre to do a check on the ecu, but came up no fault code.. weird)

when the light is on do you have brake lights? wired no fault codes..............

Do you have software that is programmed for the dump pipe?

Also need the specifications on your dump pipe - type of catalyst etc.

APR & Oettinger have specific software for different downpipes.

Its common to throw cat inefficiency codes after upgrading to a downpipe with a cheap cat. which one did you get?

Do you have access to a vagcom? It would really be best to see the code before taking specific action. Perhaps next time dont disconnect the battery before you get it scanned?

There are some very cheap ways of getting around it if this is your problem. Do a google search for "wayne angle block" for information about it.

Is your car already reflashed? Some tuners do offer a software solution as Guy is mentioning above.

Other option is to install a cat that works properly.

Its a custom made catless dump pipe from hitech mufflers. I got mtm reflash at the moment, looking to get apr or revo stage 2. Thats why i got that dump pipe. So it seems its my ecu is not configured for the new dp. Does that mean if i get the stage 2 tuned then the problem will resolve?? Also it is very hard for me to make a read of wot fault code comes up when i have the epc light on, coz i never know when its gonna light up, and once it lights up i cant drive the car at all. So disconnecting the batt is the only thing i can do for now in order to drive home or work!
