  • Pod filters and K-jet

Hey people, Has anyone fitted a pod filter to their Kjet car? I'm thinking of making up a lower airbox section out of sheet aluminium and having it funel down into the shape of a pipe allowing me to fit a pod filter.
    Has it been done?
    How succesfully?
    Suggestions?
    Cheers Carl.

Here's a very basic idea of what I'd like to do, ofcourse I'd make a bit more room for the metering arm to move within thew box and maybe have a shroud around the pod itself, well the engine bay side.

    Suggestions?

would be good if you could. My mate just put a pod filter on his mx5, which sound like poo as standard, sounds so much better it's not funny. I can only imagine how good mine would sound with a pod and a power rhor (SS induction pipe).

I thought I'd seen them before as there were fitted as standard to Volvo 240T & a standard bosch part.
There sometimes on ebay too from these seller's

          This would also suit Mk2.

id say u will prob get more perfomace out of a drilled box with a k&n filter...an mx5 loves the pod they gain like 10-15 hp just for a filter.. th pod would look pretty cool though

I done that with mine & it look's like swiss cheese!
The only probably is that you tend to get to much hot air from the engine compartment. The pod filter is a good idea, but on a Mk1 you still get the warm air off the radiator!
Before I drilled the crap out of my airbox, I tried a duct from in front of the radiator which worked O.K. but the down side is you still need a large duct to make it work & you can only fit so much in front of the radiator & around the battery. If you relocated the battery & made a duct from the headlight into the airbox, I reckon you'd see the difference.

A Mk2 will be diiferent as they can grab air from behind the headlight & spotlight area, not the radiator.

Stroeve Motorsport have been making one for ages - you could quite easily copy the design with some alloy and a welder The filter connects to a pipe which is welded to a hole through the plate.

ive got a mk2 k-jet set up and my fuel dizzy is on the right side of the car (drivers) and it gets cold air ok in that spot.. its a really tight fit, i have to take the airbox out to disconect my headlight. all k- jet setups ive seen have the dizzy on the left side, can any1 tell me why mine is the other way around, is it cause its a mk2 engine. just like to know..

All Mk2's 8V's & 16V's had the fuel system/airbox assembly & what not fitted on the RHS. Mk1's had it on the LHS incl. the Scirocco's

Do you have dyno figures ?

We lost a second a lap with the race car around wakefield using a pod filter vs stock airbox .

nothing like it, since the K-jet system is a totally different FI system with a non circular hole to fit a pod filter to.

And as for performance gains/losses, I'm really not too fussed, if I had the same performance and it sounded better I'd be happy. That said naturally I would like to avoid a performance loss.

                              filters

I have the k-jet setup running my 16v, no swiss cheese on my box i've cut the bottom out of the box altogether leaveing a few bits on there to secure it down and running a K&N panel liter and i pretty pos that i've gain a little in the performance and a lot in the induction dep but it's just the right note.

Having said that i believe that you would if anythink gain more from a panel filter with the bottom cut out vs a pod as the would be absolutley no restrictions and at the same time you leaving the look std, you can vent some cold air up to the bottom of the filter via two flexible pipes from somewhere in behind your bumper.

Well that's what i've done it was simple looks neat and tucked away and the induction works great i've tested it with me trusty old leaf blower from about 2m away from the front of the car and heaps of fresh air being vented up to the filter.
                              just an idea,
'm sure others would have done the same as i have many years earlier.

Just to add a little bit more those cast alloy inuction boxes would be great for a turbo k-jet setup.

                              Cheers Dave
