Dremel time

So, I feel very manly and will be buying my first dremel in the next few days.

It is mainly to polish metal parts on the mk1, It will look very euro style with a lot of polished parts.

My question is, since I will be taking the 1600 out in favor of an engine conversion once we get to Queensland, I want to learn on this engine as its 270,000klms and not worth any money. I plan on doing some head work like porting it out a bit and so on. Is a dremel a good tool for this?

Also, what other things are good to learn while experimenting with head work and so on?

As long as it's stuff you don't have to buy, and you can do it/learn it yourself (which is what I gather from your goals hah) then it shouldn't cost too much. When you start looking for bigger parts (ie oversizes valves and lifters etc) it gets really expensive. I actually don't know that, that's just what I'm told .

Yeah, not interested in having to buy anything for the 1600, just want to learn how to do that stuff correctly. Is a dremel even powerful enough?

For polishing? I'd hazard a guess and say a good one will be! IIRC engine part polishing has been done with dremels... but I'm not quite the person to be asking sorry.

you need a die grinder for head work!

unfortunately it's not as easy as just get out the dremel. there's a bit of work involved, but it's do able imo. just have to be pretty committed

Yeah I was not too sure if it would be powerful enough for headwork but it was worth a guess eh? Polishing should still be ok though?

Dremel 395-75 75th Anniversary for $134 + $5 postage. Last one in stock from everywhere ive looked.

Ended up getting it at http://www.mytoolstore.com.au/ and they have a lot of tools that are fairly priced with $5 shipping Aus wide.
