Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

On ebay at the moment is a set of pistons, they suit the 2 litre 16v 1990 to 93, can anyone tell me if they will work in a 1.8 8v? i know the block needs boring, but are 16v engines use the same pistons etc as the 8v?

They'll "fit" but you'll have waaaay too much compression and also (from what i've been told) the pistons will need to be fly cut to give clearance for the valves.

Waste of time.. Just get the -right- 8v pistons.

mm. i have this exact issue with my car.. the 16v has its combustion chamber in the head, where as the 8v has a dish in its pistons.

a lot of machine work (read: $) unless you're into that sorta thing ( preen ) to make these suitable for an 8v.

edit: however, a 16v(abf) with these pistons, a bit of head work and some cams would fly!
