Plastic screen in air intake box, 1.4GT

Hi,

Today, while taking out my K&N filter for cleaning and servicing, I notice this palstic piece. It sits between the air filter and the bottom of the air box. The intake air will pass through this screen before pasing through the air filter.

I though of removing it since it will restrict the airflow quite a bit. Any ill effects in doing so?

Can't see that there would be, figure they are just trying to keep larger itmes such as leaves out of the filament itself. I took mine out the night I bought it, and had a few thou of no problems, then went for a Pod setup.

For the record the MAF grid is another large restriction in the intake, not too sure where it sits on the TSI, but in the TDI it's just after the 90 degree outlet from the airbox lid. Modshack reckon its a 22% restriction.

I put on a pod, and given the straight airflow, removed the grid and as yet nil problems now 20k's in. Few other maf-less guys on here too.
