  • adz conversion

hey i'm wanting to do a adz conversion to a b1 passat,

i will run into troubles with the oil filter fouling on the side engine mount, the old oil filter holder obviously doesn't fit, my question is,

wat can can i get an oilfilter holder off, i believe i will need a holder off a A4, or passat it needs to slant towards the back of the motor

will a AEB oil filter holder fit onto a ADZ block,

    any help appreciated

    cheers Nick

I did the same conversion and the troble you have is that the later passat and audi engines have more sensor holes etc and the later engines have a different shaped filter housing.

2E engined passat from the UK would be the one you want.

What I ended up doing was using the filter and housing off the adz motor and cutting a chunk out of the engine mount to allow clearance and then making a strong, but funny shaped engine mount incorporating a holder for the clutch cable.

What about an oil filter relocation kit?

the adz is a great motor for a cheap and easy upgrade. good head for mating up to a stock carby manifold.

more problems with the conversion, while looking over the engine arrangement i noticed the the alt is running off a multi-V belt, and the alt is the tensioner for the air con pully

the water pump is tensioned with the power steering pump, as you are all well aware,

i'm not running the power steering pump so i have nuthing to tension the water pump pulley, if i run the new alternator

how have people got around this, run a dry power steer pump?

I think you can change the waterpump pulley to a VR6 one and run it off the serpentine belt, that way you don't need the other belt at all. You'll need a different length belt though.

i can't run that setup! the alternator will collide with the radiator in the B1,

golf loon, how'd ya get around this custom pulley's?

we'll the conclusion to this is the old alternator setup, with the old crank pulley, and a custom made water pump pulley!

i don't think i have many other options, or this been the simplest!

you can run a power steer pump, but not dry - it needs fluid for the bearing as i understand.

if you pull apart the pump and remove the vanes, you can then run it without it pumping - it just turns round and round - fill it with fluid and cap the hoses.

You need to run the old belt setup with a V belt in that car mate.

Audi 80 engine is a short block and the oil filter housing you want is not on it.

yeah you should be able to run the exact same setup you had in the car before the engine change.

heres the modified engine/clutch mount i had to make, just incase any one decides to do the same conversion, found a new OE front water pump so i ran the same belt configuration.

                            no other problems so far!
