Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

sorry for the OP
And to add to Volksee77's question, what rotors are those?Last edited by kaanage; 12-09-2011, 07:54 AM.Resident grumpy old fart

I got a new set of extractors from Straight Line Performance in the mail yesterday.
No pics sorry I had to rush them down to Modern Plating first thing to get them ceramic coated in time for Phillip Island on the 2nd of October.
I pulled the current set out today in preparation.
One of the outlets has cracked through in a totally new place.
Turns out every thing they say about wrapping exhausts is true!
Good news is none of my repairs failed
Anyone in the market for a slightly used set of headers?

I changed the water outlet today.
The one that was on the car really belonged to a KJet setup I've got in a box elsewhere.
It had a couple of unused sensors and I wanted to install a new sensor for the logger which required drilling and tapping the casting.
I wanted to save the KJet outlet to go back into another car one day along with the rest of the KJet bits so I found this outlet form an Audi 80.
The Audi outlet has just the right number of holes although I did have to tap one of the out to M12x1.5 for a Bosch sensor.
While I was mucking about with the logger I thought I'd see if I could get the oil temp sensor to make sense.
Rather than install a dedicated sensor I'm just reading off the voltage being presented to the existing VDO gauge.
Here is my quick and dirty setup for plotting out the response of the temp sender.
To make it cold I used aerosol cold in can and to make it hot I used a heat gun.
In order to calibrate the system I took voltage readings at every 10° C from -30° to 160° and let the software derive the 3rd order polynomial equation itself.
Reasonably accurate readings now. Need to warm the car up and check with an infra red thermometer to be sure.
Office space.

Yeah these pipes took a beating this is the previous repair from a couple of pages back.
The repair held but it just broke through in a new spot.
You can see the welds have held and the new crack in this picture of the same joint.
The new exhaust won't need wrapping, the ceramic coating does a better job.
This is a downpipe I had silver ceramic coated for our Passat.
As to the math, it's the sort of stuff you swear you'll never use in your lifetime when you're studying it at high school.
Up until now I was right. I've got vague recolections of polynomials, the rest is pure Google.
The electronic stuff however is an area I'm much more comfortable with.79 MK1 Golf Wreck to Race / 79 MK1 Golf The Red Thread / 76 MK1 Golf Kamei Race Car

Extractors are back from coating.
After being tossed about the garage for the last couple of weeks, more of the rusty scale has fallen off the old extractors and revealed more cracks.
I'd say these headers have had their day.

I put in one of the USRT shift kits while the exhaust and carbs were all out of the way.
Bit of a fiddle. Not quite a bolt in, out of the box affair.
Instructions are woeful but it does connect all the bits together.
