Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Well not quite a wreck but I liked the sound of the title

I`ve been a bit quiet on here, I`ve been putting in a few hours every night to prepare my MK1 for the track. I`m not really sure what type of racing or class I'll end up in so the car is just generally being made sound. I`ll do the rounds of VWCV events for a year or so then work out what I want to do.

The project car is my 1979 MK1 Golf "White".

I keep finding things along the way to fix too which is slowing me down.

I` m not looking at doing anything to the motor yet, I`ll think about that when I`ve worked out all the implications for classes.

Enough for now I'm on the train and not too far from my stop.

                        Nice work Pete.

At least you've got a plan (a nice looking plan too!) of attack & a budget.

These track day's sound like a bit of fun. Wouldn't mind getting involved myself one day.

That's if I can get my arse into gear & rebuild something.

Time for an update and a few pics. It's been a case of one step forwards two steps back for the last few days but I've chased a lot of issues through to their conclusion and things are starting to go back in.

I replaced the Cam and intermediate shaft seals without too many issues but the crank pulley had to be convinced to come off. I went though a couple of levers before I made this up to lock the crank.

Even then I had to heat it up a bit and really swing off it to move it.

Here's what was hiding behind the covers.

Took me a while to clean that up.

I also replaced the injectors seals and discovered I have one odd injector. some thing else to fix!

3 of them look like this.

But the one on no1 cylinder is made of brass and looks like this.

I wrote the numbers down, I'll have to do some research.

                            Modern Art?
