  • another mk1 story

I bought this mk1 gls over the weekend and had it delivered tuesday.
The rhr wheel arch is/was a bit hammered but with a little help form my best mates we managed to knock it into some sort of shape.

the plan at the moment is to do enough to get it registered and then later on do a decent resto.

            Nice work, mate.

Good to see another Mk1 being fixed up and not scrapped.

I used to own that car. I talked to the previous owner at SEDF about the accident, it sounded a lot worse than it looks. Wasn't a bad car, good to see its getting back on the road.

the wheel arch is the easy part, the sill is a bit nasty. from what i can tell the wheel was hit from behind and pushed into the sill.
i will bang up some more pics later

a little more progress on the golf
i pulled out the rear suspension beam

                  and it's stuffed

and so is where it mounts to the body

yeah... this should be a bit fun to fix
                  as will the sill panel

                    nasty looking.

I'm sure you'll be right though!

btw, I think I've got those two side trims if you're missing them..

Beautiful !! Why pay money for someone to fix it when you can do a bit of DIY work aye ?

Good work mate, its great that its being fixed. Did the same with mine, and it was well worth it !

                        some good news...
if you look at the photo with the youngest kid in it, you will notice around the fuel filler is all sucked in.
well i removed the screws that go through the qtr panel into the filler neck and hooray the panel came out nice and flat. the wheel has hit the fuel neck and pushed it towards the centre of the car hence this result...
                        happy!

got a rear beam off peter jones, thanks pete. i have pulled it all to bits in preparation for painting then rebuild.
i also knocked out the mounting point on the chassis rail, still needs some dressing up but looking the goods.
                          pics later
