  • Not VAG - 1968 Mercedes Benz W108 250S

I'm slowly fixing small things on it.
Recently cleaned up the bumpers, made a new boot liner, found an AM radio that's pretty close to what it had from the factory etc.
It needs a cyl. head and gearbox rebuild, the floor's recoated (rubber) and a few other things.
It's a real PITA to work on. Everything has been pulled apart and put back together with mismatching screws and bolts, and it's just awkward.

    Anyway:

The Basket-Weave vinyl seats are almost immaculate.

The dashboard is messy. Needs to be stripped down and re-aligned.

          Jace,

Classic machine !! I've had 2 x 108's - both 280SE 3.5's..one I had for 7 years (cleaned it up for and won an ACT Road Class Concours award...you only do it once in your life!!) and the other about 7 weeks...this is the last of the 'hand finished' Benzes and to me the ultimate classic.

if you ever need any advice, either give me a shout or have a look on www.ozbenz.com.au, which I've been a member for years..

in relation to Jarred's comment, go the thin white walled Michelin's...great tyre and cool w/w..I had them on both 108's

          Cheers

Big thanks for that site! Didn't know it existed. I assumed everybody who owned a W108 was too old to use a computer.
Far out. I'd love to get my car to concours spec.
Eh. Everybody tells me to get whitewalls and/or slam it.
It's pretty much original, so it'll stay that way!
Mark I will be sure to ask you questions in the future. You don't own a W108 now?
            Cheers mate.

              Awesome....

I dont know much about mercs but there was a restored convertible from about the same era parked out the front of my work a few months back.

It was jaw droppingly beautiful and the detail was amazing!! Have big respect for anyone that restores a car but this thing was something else.

Will be keeping an eye on this thread!

                Mercedes-Benz W108

This is the W108 I found with the factory sun roof, was my every day driver but I decided I wanted some more room........

                How it began......

                Needed more room.....

I have stretched it 850mm, I'm going to box in the rear wheel arch and add a 1/4 window and then stretch some doors to make it look like the W100 S600

                    Benz

You do projects like this because you can...... And when there finished there is a lot of pleasure in knowing you did it yourself, every bolt, repair, rust, more rust, paint etc.

This is how I hope it will turn out.
I have un-picked the roof from the front so now the sunroof will be over the back passengers, The floor is cut in the rear to stager the joint for more strength and I will add another cross member behind the drivers seats to support the 'B' pillar.

No, I sold my pride and joy in 2006 and have since had a couple years in Dubai, so I've had to start again....anyway Dubai's where I revisited VW's after not having one for about 15 years (a 3 door Mk IV turbo)...so the masochist in me now owns a Mk 1 cabriolet...not quite engineered like a 'Benz
