Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Gearbox Rebuild

Hey everyone, my gearbox started to make noises a few weekends ago, so i decided to pull it out and check it out. I thought i may aswell write a thread about it.

(Moderators: If you think this is cluttering up the forum or in the wrong subject just delete it/move it)

    Box In

    Box Out

    Anyone For 5-Speed parts? Lol

The noise ended up being a chipped pinion and ring gear and a collapsed output shaft bearing but i couldn't get pics of that because it fell into a million peices. Im Suprized these chips didn't make that much noise, it was only a faint whine.

The spider gears in the middle were also chewed out but it's a bit hard to see in the pics.

The new pinion and ring gear, these are alot of $$$$ lol.

i will post more pics when i build it and put it back into the car tommorow and hopefully she will be like new again.

Nice description. Looks like a big jigsaw without the box. Hope you know where all the bits go.
