Slug 1.8 engine in Golfs?

i have noticed that people have talked about the slug of a 1.8 8V.

My Golf that i just bought has a 1.8 with a 45mm Deloretto carby. Engine number is JH186796.

Is this the same 1.8 that people call a slug?

What people? and what golf? I reckon they are referring to a Mk3 1.8, which would be a slow slug. 1.8 in a Mk1 is pretty good.

1.8 8v in a mk1 goes pretty good in a mk3 can be considered a bit of a slug but try a 1.816v no torque down low but when she wakes up damn they move once tuned properly of course

I think thats from a US spec cabrio.
All the 1.8s have the same bottom end, put a bigger cam in if you want more power, or port the head and put in bigger valves.

JH was used in the U.S. for the 1.8 8V GTI's. Sedan's & convertibles.
It was underpowered (90hp) due to there smog restrictions & various other related component's.

i had a jh engine code in mine before the 16valve. compared to the 16, its a bit of a slug, but with a decent carbie in a mk1 , you can't be dissapointed wth your 1.8, sure as hell beats a 1.6.
