The paint was a pain in the a$$, would have done the whole car given time and a decent spray booth. Worked out it had been resprayed before, likely with a non original mix. Metalics are the hardest to match to existing paintwork .

Mine has started to bleed and will need replacing.

    Thanks

Clock assembly comes out pretty easily after you take the wiring foil off ( carefully) and remove the tacho out of the cluster.Clock is held in with 2 tiny screws. no solder required, did a ton of wiring work while the dash was out, only used a BentleyManual wiring diagram.

Had a web link for replacement clock in China, but couldnt get any sense from the company, ended up using one from a different cluster, altho its started bleeding now... Will leave it for the time being.

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

Thanks for the info, I guess it's direct sunlight that causes them to leak?
Now to find an old cluster!

Not sure about the sun, think its more from the LCD screen being tweaked by overtensioning the screws as the one i replaced it with was clear when installed.

Out of 9 clusters i found only 1 that worked with all bars in the LCD operating...

You can check them when out of the cluster ( tho i cant remember how ) think a power and earth connection was all it took.

With my clock, if the battery has been disconnected for a period of time then reconnected the numbers are incomplete. I find that pushing the hour or minute button and letting the numbers scroll, will sort the problem. Hopefully they may still work.

How did you find nine? I've only ever found one in Melbourne - at the time I didn't need it. Do you know a good auto dismantler of old Golfs?

Yeah, the bars sometimes arent working on mine , then drive the car and there all fine ( dunno how that works..)

I buy them from the US, UK wherever some are destined for MK1 Scirocco upgrades.

Bout the best you can do for real old Mk1 stuff is either California or Arizona wreckers, Even UK is getting difficult to find bits nowdays.
