Thanks Lads, yeah going to town a bit as i want to use this over the next winter / summer, the daily rocco needs some serious bodywork doing to it...so reliability is the deal

Had a spare head, gone to the machine shop for a small amopunt of water jacket rot repair, a lick across the face and the new guides reamed and valve seats cutting. Have some injection bits coming over from Techtonics in the next few days.

Still loads of wiring, dash and body work finishing to do yet...
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,
    Grant...

          I'm back....

Finally back into this project after taking a month off with my visitor from o/s, crook back and generally getting run ragged...

With the body painted, re installed the factory guard liners, a bugger to fit but when i took them out, i couldnt believe how little amount of debris and lack of corrossion there was underneath..Good idea VW only about 20 years to late to save a lot of early golf/ scirocco's..

next came the 'bay ' sorting out wiring, cables etc..

Took a while as a lot of the wiring tags had fallen off, one thing the late K jetronic isnt is short of wires...

Managed to get the engine assembly under the car and hauled into position, hanging by the bracket and right side mount here...

          .

            moar...

with the engine on a sideways tilt, hooked up the transaxle and hoisted into position...rear mount on, front one will go in when the starter is bolted home..( got to steal it back from the daily rocco first..)

have the manifolds on, still plenty of K jet stuff to re-install along with heater plumbing, radiator, alternator etc...
            Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

                  easter... time off

Getting more done this long weekend, have pretty well got the engine bay wiring sorted, radiator and condenser fitted, fuel system is pretty well done. Dizzy is still out so i can purge the engine oilways with a remote oil pump drive.

Axles, starter and clips for the exhaust pipe are left to do, + all the wiring mess from behind the dashboard...

                  pix for clix.

Had to salvage another Alternator as the original had a cracked lug, probably something to do with the bodgey aftermarket aircon setup...

                    Last week....

Made a tool for those ****ty exhaust clamps the toilet bowl downpipe uses, replaced the water flange on the end of the head with a newbie, the old one refused to seal at all.

Primed the oil pump, fitted and set the dizzy timing, plugs and leads then cranked it over, had it running in about 10 seconds, bit rattley til the lifters pumped up, fiddeled with the timing / idle for a bit and got it running at a fast idle ( 1300 rpm)

Checked her over for oil and water leaks, so far so good.

Still to fit axles, change brake fluid, then it will be on the ground once again.

Sorting out the remaining interior stuff now...

Clock works, but LCD screen is slowly dying...so out with the old, in with the just as old....

getting it together in the cockpit...slowly..

                      Update...

                      Wow, no update since May...

Well after sorting out a few immobiliser issues, the car now drives. Still a few things to sort out yet tho.

Still have the top and hoodlining to replace, Overhaul the brake system ( old fluid looked like choc milk !!) then an alignment and engine tune.

Looking good, I've heard silver paint can be difficult to match, but yours looks perfect.

Just a quick question on your clock replacement. After removing the cluster from the dash, how is the clock held in? Soldered or a push fit? Is replacement straight forward or did you need a auto electrician?

Mine has started to bleed and will need replacing.

                            Thanks

                            Michael
