    weekend continued...

primed and painted the lower hidden section of the A pillar, had shown some light rust on the previously only primed surface.. so some top coat will only serve to protect it more IMO...

So anyone know what this little sucker is about ????

Fitted the guards up, bit of a bugger getiing them anywhere near in line...
    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

    Cheers,
    Grant...

weekend still... is it over yet ??

Got the hood on, seems like it all needs to come over to the right a few mils... may have to bend the hinges or shim it with a washer ...

Least the guards are on and there staying there...

      ..to be continued...

Hey Grant, just reading through and saw this. Some nice looking work man!
I'd love to see some pics of the tools you made up - maybe i could persuade you to make some up for me?!!

Not sure if any of the O2O tools are the same for an O2A Wade...will have a gawk at the manual if i get a chance...

More time in the paint shed today seeing the week was shot down with the workload..

Primered the front of the car completely now, needs a rub back down to 800 for the metalic paint...

                    plastics..

Then onto the bumper and one arch section that needed replacing ..

sprayed it with the plastic flex primer.. 2 coats...

then over that with 2 of the primer filler...

Tomorrow will give them a light rub once again down to 800 grit wet..then hopefully enough daylight left to get the base and clear coat on it all...

Yeah, new shed with no power....

The engine was only going to get seals and gaskets replaced, but now its totally in bits...doing the bearings, re ring and a deglaze hone, valves can have a grind along with the seats. New guides if warranted...got all the goodies on their way, set rod bolts, set head bolts...gaskets, seals, all the coolant hoses, timing belt and tensioner...In my book, do it once, do it right...bugger the wallet....

Wouldnt be the first time either...

Finally got the paint on, thought the colour looked a bit dark so took the paint back to the supplier with the original guard as a sample... by the look of it it still looks a bit to blue compared to the rest of the car, but will suffice for now...

The bonnet is still to the left a wee bit ( check gaps..) will have to sus that out later...

managed to get the block striped out and into a hot tank, removing all the rubbish out of the water passages in the block, have replaced near everything else with the cooling system, so grotty block needed sorting..

and thats the robowash... caustic hot tank is a different set up by far...

well all the bits came back to my shed, painted the block, then began the reassembly..

the caustic eats the whitemetal auxillary shaft bearings, so they needed replacing ...

had the puller guides from a previous car rebuild, so makes short work of it..

                          got the crank in...

all the pistons, rods etc are in , clearances checked and torqued up..

Sump is on, front mount, rear dividing plate and the pressure plate..have a couple of alloy pipe flanges that need blasting, so they will go on during the week..

                          more tomorrow.....
