Hi Guys,
Sorry I haven't been on the forum for a while.
Doesn't mean that I haven't been giving the black GTI some stick occasionally.
It's still going as strong as ever, but I don't get it out all that much lately.
Main interest has been Wakefield Park for the last two or three years,
where my son and I run around with a bunch of MX-5's (a mate of mine was in the MX-5 club,
and they seemed by a decent bunch).
The R-spec Dunlops are getting a bit worn now, but we're posting better times each outing,
so I guess we're improving.
Junior has gotten down to low 1:18s, which puts him in the middle of lots of MX-5s.
I've just scrapped into the high 1:19s...
The fearlessness of youth I guess.
With two of us driving it all day, it never misses a beat - bullet proof
It's a lot of fun anyway.
The GTI can hold an (1st gen) NA MX-5 down the straight still, which isn't bad - they are also 1800cc, but are twin-cam,
and heaps of years younger. The later models are a bit more of a challenge...
Last time I installed a (high-def) GOPRO camera to get some in-car footage.
Only problem is that the camera rattles inside the case, so the audio (and sometimes the video) is a bit crap.
But here's a sample:
Here's an earlier video from my phone.
Junior passed 3 MX-5 in one outing - check it out.
We'll be down there again on the 29th July.
This will be the last outing for the GTI though.
Although I do like punting it round Wakefield, it's time to move onto something else.
Also, the GTI really need someone with the time and energy to do some renovations.
It's still a solid car, but needs some TLC to get it back to its prime.
So, I'm going to offer it to members of the forum first.
Dunno how much its worth.
I'll figure that out later - I'm open to offers though..
Not that Wakefield Park is in anyone's backyard, but drop in and see the car in action if you like...
(though I noticed that there was some talk of a Wollongong cruise that day...)
Ian.
