I went in 2006, and it was awesome!! Even got to help out Jim Richards with his loose wheel nuts...
There was a guy competeing in a Beetle RSI which sounded insane!! We found an awesome spot on the hairpin near just before Buller Village.
Also, when we went, it was free to watch.
does sounds pricie....but would love to go and watch.....i smell a melbourne crew road trip
sounds good to me
VW: it aint just a car, its a way of life There are few things more satisfying in life than finding a solution to a problem and implementing it

I ran the teener in it a few years ago. Its a nice bit of road, but very dangerous even by tarmac rally standards. If you go off over the edge you may not be found until the next day. By tarmac rally standards, its good value too. I would do it again if circumstances permitted, but its straight after Adelaide.

You can't be serious with this statement
I have run Buller Sprint and was there competing when the unfortunate accident happened in 2007 that took the life of Paul Flintoff and the safety crew & FIV personnel they use and the work they do at this event is second to none.
To claim that if you had on off you wouldn't be found until the next day is reckless and misleading in the extreme. Please tell me you were joking and just forgot to add the smiley.
Every car that competes in this and other tarmac events passes through a series of radio / marshalling points on the way up the mountain or through a stage and is called into to rally control as it passes each one. Fail to pass one or fail to arrive at the finish and the appropriate safety procedures are put into place immediately. On top of that each competitor has a series of safety rules they have to follow if they come across any other vehicle off the road or stopped on the stage not displaying the OK sign.
If you do have an off at this event or any tarmac rally in Australia for that matter you will receive attention from trained experts in the FIV crew quicker than you would if you were in an accident on the roads in day to day driving and you would receive better care as I know for a fact the the crew who do the FIV for Mt Buller have emergency room trauma nurses and doctors on board the FIV vehicle.
So please unless you have some evidence or facts to back up your statement or you were in fact just joking, don't make statements that are just blatantly untrue and misleading.
For anyone wanting to experience the event without having to spend 3K to enter motorsport they are having a touring class that costs $350.00 and you get two runs a day up the mountain behind the pace car at 80%. You don't need a cage for the touring event and you have a viewing area in the village to watch the motorsport competitors from.
Cheers Al
Just to let you all know there are still positions available, there's still about 10as of yesterday in the touring class and about 50 in the sprint, if you thinking of entering give Tim a call from Mountain Motorsport ASAP. I have entered my Polo GTI for the touring class so if your not thinking of entering come up and watch a great weekend of motorsport up at buller.
I had a look at the official website yesterday looking for some decent spectator info. The only thing i could find was road closure times on the mt buller website. If we just wanna rock up on the day to have a look is there anything that we really need to know other than get there at a time when the road wont be closed?
im busy on saturday with a friends wedding so toying with the idea of going up on sunday morning.. looks like it will be a 5am start to drive up there though.. so unsure if i can be arsed.

Last year there was a spectator guide issued, not sure why there is not one fso far this year. entry to watch the mt buller sprint is $10 payable at resort entry. the two areas to watch are either at bottom of the mountain or in the village centre as well as down near the skating rink and andrew's car park which are further down from the village centre. The village centre is probably is the best viewing as food -toliets etc are available as well as giving you the opportunity to walk around the village viewing all the racing cars. as far as i know there are a couple R32 Golfs and golf GTI in the sprint and my brother and i in the touring section in our Polo and Golf GTI's . If anyone is thinking of going up on the weekend go to the Mt buller website to check on road closures for the day- there are ample times during the day to get up the mountain as the road opens for short stints throughout the day. If anyone wants any further info regarding the sprint please post your questions?.
We fly into Melbourne tomrrow morning and will be up the mountain around lunchtime to meet the car which we dropped into CEVA last week for shipping. On Thursday we will setup the pit area, do a couple of recce runs to check our pace notes and put the car through scrutineering.
Myself and Marti (R32 in modern), David Watson and his nav (R32 in showroom) and Dean (APR GTI), along with a Porsche and the service crew will all be pitting in the same area in the pits (skating rink area parking lot) and Marti and I are staying at the Mt Buller Chalet so if anyone wants to drop up and say hi feel free.
Just a reminder Mt Buller Sprint starts tommorrow going trough to the end of the weekend, for more info on road closures go to the mountain motorsport website.
