  • GC/Bris 49cc Pocket Bike Racing - anyone interested?

    Hey all,

I recently bought a pocket bike for $100, yes, only $100!

Anyway there is a group of 6 of my mates that do some friendly racing every week in secret locations (private property of course).

We have just today approached RACELINE EVENTS who organise the drift rounds on the GC and brissy, and they are keen to get pocket bike racing back in their schedule.

We have to provide them with a plan of how things will work but one of the things the organiser asks for is to get some more numbers up than just 6 people each round. He is happy with small numbers for the first few rounds for promotional reasons but if we can't get the numbers up a bit into the season, the whole idea will be scrapped.

So, is there anyone out there who has a pocket bike or wants to get into it? It's a VEEERY easy, VERY cheap motorsport and only takes a couple of hours riding to get really confident for competitive riding. I have been riding once a week for a little over a month now and am as fast around our track as my mate who has raced full size motorbikes, and still owns several. It really is that easy, and still to this day I'm not confident on mopeds and motorbikes, they just scare me.

All you need to get going is a 49cc air-cooled bike, helmet, gloves, long pants, long shirt and enclosed shoes. Leathers are not necessary. You can pick up a good bike between $100-$200 on e-bay, tradingpost, adoos, gumtree, there are plenty for sale. Most importantly, I am far from mechanically minded but can pull apart and rebuild these bikes no trouble, it's only a 2-stroke whipper-snipper engine after all.

Here are a few snaps of my bike for your viewing pleasure

Since these photo's were taken I've put on an upgraded 'fatboy muffler', advanced timing key (rocket key) and upgraded the footpegs. Parts are very cheap too.

    when we bought it

    stripped back to clean fairings

    sanding back the fairings

    all painted up

    satin black FTW!!

first test ride with fairings off

    Cheers,
    Rhys

that is the coolest thing ever. I'd be very keen to catch up for a looksy. When you riding next?

And this would fit in the back of the polo too, even cooler would be to fit it on roof racks hahaha.

Thats so cheap!! Cant believe it.
Looks like great fun and I can understand practising without the fairings.

We were planning this weekend but a few of the guys including myself are pretty busy, maybe next weekend. I'll let you know if we head out.

And yes I put it on the back seat of the Polo. I put a couple of towels down and chuck the bike in. It only weighs about 20 odd kg so it's easy to take anywhere.
