Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Motor-Kahna Fun

Looking for “Cheap Motorsport?”, do I have a deal for you.
The MG car club here in Canberra runs regular Motor-Khana events at the Sutton Rd Driver Training complex. Basically a patch of flat tar the size of a footy field. With an entry fee of $25 (excludes CAMS licence - $46 for 12 months) it don’t get much cheaper. Of course you will need a car that passes basic safety checks (wheels, covered and secured battery, nothing loose in the cabin), but otherwise that’s it. Cars can be multi-entered, so sharing a ride is easy. You can even take a passenger if you get lonely (or lost)
    How does it work?
You get two runs at each “Test”. The object is to pilot yourself around the flags from the Start garage back to the Finish garage. Easy huh? Take a look at Test1.

This was one of the easier ones! You loose points (gain penalty time) for each flag you hit, if you miss a turn you get the big WD (wrong direction) and the run is over. Fortunately you get to keep the best time (of the two runs) at each test, but if you WD both of them, you get assigned the slowest time of anyone plus five seconds!
But forget all that, just go out and have some tyre smoking, handbrake turning fun!!

I am kinda happy with the way it turned out too. The big challenge will be the interior. At the moment it kinda sux. The dash is soooo melted (luckilly it came with a dash-mat to hide the cracks), the carpets are a little pongy and the front seats are split and trashed.

Guess I should plan on re-building around the pretty blue padded doors.

Rego inspection was a breeze - no problems - it helped that the guys doing the inspection had had a quick look a couple of days prior and tipped me off as to what I needed to fix (Rear wheel bearings, CV boots, brake lights, bald tyre and an exhaust hanger or 2)

And I ended up 11th outright for the Khana (wahoo!!)

Rally Golf is still a no show, it has been down in Melbourne with John R for almost 5 months now... SIGH. The up side is that I have been able to dig into the spares bin to get the Yellow Golf running.

Maybe Darcy or Trevor could sneak into John's workshop with a camera
unless pictures of my empty shed** appeal to you

** Of course this is a lie, space in a shed never stays empty, where the shell used to be is now a pile of wheels and tyres, the engine on its stand, gearbox (nice and shinny) and general STUFF.
