khanacross, richmond, TAS 25/6/2006

The mg car club tas are running a khanacross on Sunday 25 june at kellyfield, just out of richmond. A khanacross is basically a long course motorkhana. There will be a maximum of six tests run with a convoy run prior to each test. Entry fee is $35, scrutineering begins at 8.30 with drivers briefing at 10.00. Requirements are a cams L2NS or higher licence, helmet, and a fire extinguisher (minium 900g). This will be a good day out, run on grass so not to hard on tyres/cars and heaps of fun. Come along and put your driving skills to the test, who knows, you might even pick up some new skills.

Mik, this is not a round of the series, the next round is a sealed (but usually dusty) event in the pits of the latrobe speedway on July 30.
Membership of a cams affiliated car club is a requirement, but if you hold a cams licence you should allready have this. It is a multi club event so any affiliated club membership fine.

Hi el foolio. You can get a cams junior licence without having a drivers licence so you can compete. You must join a club and get the appropiate licence. I competed in motorkhanas when I was 14. ( yes, yes, they did have cars then!) They are the very best way to learn car control and manouvering at not excessive speeds. Its very possible to finish up the order as a lot of smarties get out there going wild and knock over the marker sticks giving them penalties! Go on, have a go, you will enjoy it.

Here are some details that may be of interest to you! Too old for a Junior licence, but $46 is pretty good value!

Level 2 Non Speed Licence
Use a Level 2 Non Speed (2NS) to compete in:
+ motorkhana and khanacross events up to International level
+ observed section trials
+ touring road events which contain no closed road sections and no non-race speed sub-events
+ touring assemblies and non-timed road events
+ drifting events


Pre-requisites
Medical
+ Complete Health Statement on application form


Age
+ You must be at least 18 years of age. A junior licence is available for those between 12 and 17 inclusive. You need to be 12 years to compete in Motorkhana. You need to be 16 to compete in Khanacross, unless you have competed in Motorkhana before in which case the minimum age is 14.

$46 (Junior $11)

I've got a skid pan session coming up soon, so you are more than welcome to join the boys for some similar action! About $50 to join the HSCC (Hobart Sporting Car Club) for a year!

El foolio, you have to 16 to compete in a khanacross as it is a higher speed event than a motorkhana. I think you can compete in motorkhnans when you are 12 years old. You can also compete in club days at race tracks after your 14th birthday. The MG car club has discount membership fees for junior members,$20.00 anually. They also present a perpetual trophy for the junior with the most competition points at the end of the year. I am not sure of cams junior licence fees, but they have an office in Hobart and will be fairly helpful. Should you wish to join the MGCC pm and i can nominate you, or talk to other folk in other car clubs, you might find better membership fees, but i doubt it.

GTIMK5 and I (and maybe others) are members of CMI (Club Motori Italia) and they too are CAMS affiliated and run motorkahna, hillclimb and driver training events.

It is very much about your own level of interest different types of cars. I joined Italia as I knew someone involved and they ran the Domain Hillclimb which i wanted to enter. And they were running an introduction to speed event at Baskerville before to help me prepare.

Joining a club that has shares in Baskerville means that you can do private practice like we did last weekend for $55.

Does not matter who you join, just make sure you participate!

It makes no difference which club you join at all, as once you have a cams licence you can compete in other clubs events. When iwas young and joining a car club i went for one that had members with simular intrests to mine, and a few members that i knew. I know people from most sporting car clubs in tas and you will find most of these to be good folk.

Did anyone go for a look or a run? I intended to get down there but didnt make it. The next one at Latrobe is at the end of next month, hopefully i will be there, this is a round of the series.

I could not get there, too busy cleaning the car - and putting on my fully sik Votex mudflaps! I wish I could have gone - grass runs are more what I am interested in than tarmac motokahna's.
