Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Who knows what this thingy is, and how it works?

here it is in the top corner..

while I'm at it, heres a look at the rest of the engine bay....

Yeah that thing is emissions and so is that silly nonsense bolted to your fan. I have never seen a Mk1 in Oz with an operational emissions system. Or met a pink slip mechanic that cared.

The one on the firewall was the anti backfire valve and when that went they backfired like "antilag" on a rally car, well nearly like that! Was all to do with the air pump models. Simple fix at the time? Cut the air pump belt!

Cool, thanks for the info guys, yeah true GLoon, not many people care, though I'd like to either make it work if it can save money or cut it the hell outta there so it doesn't make a clutter or cost more to carry about....
I'd like to clean up the engine bay of everything un-needed...

Chuck it all out, it wont cost you money. will probably save actually, with less weight and better breathing for the motor.

I'll have to come up with a procedure and photos, and a F.A.Q. list 'should I use explosives' and all that...
