Diesel fuel additives

Guys i have read a few threads on tdiclub and it is common for those guys to use additives in the fuel for different reasons. Most would appear to be for better economy, but there is also some there using them for power.

Has anyone used anything here?
Please post up what brand and what results you got.

I was looking at some yesterday at the servo too mate, what with the dyno upcoming and all

Seems to just clean out dirty motors, thus restoring power to standard.

I don't think we have a K104 additive option!

Been reading the tdiclub as well.
Have plenty of threads regarding improving fuel efficiency and additives.
Have not come across any additives over here like they have, but still searching.
The best improvement still seems to be... to take the foot off accelerator.

Thanks guys, that's awesome. How cheap is that Flashlube $3.25 per tank and claims economy gains up to 6.5%. 6.5% in our late models diesels is hard to believe but at that price any gain is dam cheap.

I suppose you would have to weigh it up, would you get further on $3 worth of fuel?
I really wonder if there is any performance gains might be worth a shot though at that price

Of those I understand only Amsoil and Morey's make cetane improvment claims. Performance benefits from them all arise presumably because of injector cleaning capacity. Cetane improvement should reduce engine noise.

Morey's contains a biocide, which sounds like a good idea to use periodically at least.

Given that VW brochures specify 51CN diesel for newer engines and tha standard diesel does not always meet 51CN (since it is made to minimum 46CN per the diesel fuel standard), perhaps more people should be routinely using cetane improvers.

Perhaps someone running an engine where 51CN is recommended should ask VW for an official response.

Diesel fuel additives like Chemtec diesel power or the diesel doctor are great for killing algae and dispersing water in the fuel and it also acts as an upper cylinder lubricant when used in low sulphur fuel. I have used them in my truck and my Nissan patrol and I never had an issue with blocked filters or water in the fuel. Cheers.

I've used many different diesel fuel additives and only one lived to its name,
"Diesel Engine Smoke Killer" by Moreys.

Here is another one I forgot to mention I've used it for long time in my MB Vito 108 CDI and 112 CDI. I never saw any smoke behind me in the mirror. May be that’s why I noticed it when I swapped for VW T5. It was embarrassing to accelerate a bit faster from traffic lights. I didn't use anything in the fuel at the beginning. Old friend of mine reminded me the product, which is Pro-Ma DT5plus. Link to their site:

If it happens that you would look at their other performance product I've a good experience with DT5 Plus, MBL8, MBL3, Puncture sealant, Waterless car wash Maxi clean and their grease, which I'm still using. I wouldn't use their PT5 plus (judging from my customers feed back which is 4 years old when I stopped using their products except the grease.
I will try their DT5 Plus diesl additive again in VW diesels and post a comment.

Apparently those in tank fuel thingos make a difference. They stop the engine blacking the oil too from what i've seen, so they obviously improve the charge burn....


I've got some 100% CH3NO2 if anyone's game enough to try that as an additive..
