  • Diesel q for those well informed

For those of you who have had a diesel now for many k's and as such have filled many a tank full, have you noticed any differences between different fuel makers/brands?

If you have had better economy, general running or performance from a particular brand please post it up here with your experiences.

    Thanks,
    Jamie
    Cheers,
    Jamie

before owning a diesel with a dpf, i noticed that bp blows by far the least amount of smoke and that cheap stations often make the car blow an enormous amount of smoke. bp also has the highest cetane rating. i've only ever put bp in my gt so cant compare to others anymore sorry.

Thanks for the info. Thats making sense to me. I'm on my 4th tank so far and the first BP tank full. A combination of high tyre pressures, diesel driving style, over 2000k's and BP are giving me the best economy so far.

      Anyone else like to share?
      Cheers,
      Jamie

        Only BP here so far.

Done just under 7000 km in just over 12 weeks. Calculated economy so far 6.8 l/100km (MFD is about 10% "lenient"), best 5.9 (Melbourne-Sydney via Gippsland/Canberra), worst 8.3 (filled up after only 270 km city driving to "get to Sydney in one go").

Very happy so far, can't see any reason to change.

it's BP for me as well!

As was said earlier, less smoke, more go & K's. I've got 42000 on my 2.0tdi & it's settled down at 5.4l/100km city driving from my company fuel logs! I usually refuel at about 950K without the low light on.

5.4 ave around town, that's awesome. Mine has got 2300 k's, manual, 200HP and averaging twice that! I can only hope it settles down and gets better.
I don't get stuck into it everywhere either. One day
              Cheers,

The golf gets BP, the Focus TDCI (demo drive for work) got whatever I found (Caltex mainly)...

Interestingly, the focus returned 4.8l/100 with 4 people and a german shepherd down to Jervis bay and back via Kangaroo valley.... way less smoke than the golf too.

The Golf is far more inspiring to drive though and thats probably why it gets driven with less economy

The golf is very sensitive to the make of diesel, not so much in economy, just smoke and smell.

Only used bp in the jetta due to this forum.
Trialled it in my ute before I got the jetta and was getting up to 60km more
out of the ute with bp
7000km coming up and the setting 2 indicates average of 4.9 ( has never
                    been reset)

Mine started to settle down at about 10000K & has been consistent since 15000K. Sydney to Melbourne & back for last years F1 with 115kph set off the gps it did 5.1 for the trip. It was strange looking for places to stop for a brake & not need fuel on the way down & not refuelling until we were 100 ks on the way home after 4 days of driving in Melbourne.

Interesting. I've been using shell since day one, only because of the shopper dockets and I know all the staff there backwards thanks to my prior V8.

Will monitor this tank and then switch to BP and see what I notice. Hopefully more power??? Anything for more power.......
